Charlie,

My favorite color scheme for the YKS is the one in P1, just recently restored and re-maidened in May 2009. I have over 400 pictures of the restoration from bare bones in March 2007 to the AWC Fly In June 2009. I also have a couple of other variants shown below. Contact me for the CD.

P1 – YKS-7, NC 17457 after the most recent restoration at CCA.
P2 – YKS-7, NC 17457 before the last restoration
P3 – YKS-7, NC 17474 located in Belville, IL
P4 – YKS NC 16241, similar to the Electric ARF.
P5 – YKS-6, NC 16246
P6 – YKC, NC 3NX, at CCA in the HARM
P7 – VKS, NC 31663
P8 – UKC NC 14010. Note the large fixed landing lights and tri-angular rear window.

John,

I would tend to agree, the new restoration is a smart looking paint scheme. I like it! I also like the scheme in your P6. Not many people use the "fine line" paint scheme on restorations but it was a stock offering from Waco. it looks good!

By the way, it was great seeing you at Creve Coeur. Jeri and I had a great time, and we already look forward to next year. We had fun at Mt. Vernon for the National Waco Club fly-in as well. You can see reports on both at my blog, www.classicwaco.com. (Well, I still have "part 2" to post, but I hope to get that done today!)

Cheers!

Thanks, Dave. Sounds like the odds are pretty good that mine isn't the old version then. That's good news!

Bill,,Jim,
Well it looks like the odds were in my favor as well, I got my engine in the mail today and as to my surprize it is a OS Gemini FT-120II and not the older version. I ain't going to complain about the price I paid for a Brand New in Box engine.

Dave,

Congratulations on the new acquisiton. I was talking with Dick Watz last night, and he was telling me that he just got a new in the box FT 120 II as well. These things are coming out of the woodwork.

Joe,

Would you please post a couple of photos of your UPF? I would like a profile, and something that at least shows the wing paint scheme.

Now I have my engine for the Pica 1/5 scale Cessna Skylane kit I bought last year, just a couple more things left and I'll have everything in hand to build it and equip it so it can go into the sky.

Does the registration number show up on either wing?

Bill,

The photos of Joe's Waco UPF-7, NC 39748, do not show a number on the wings either top or bottom. The number is only on the rudder.

Bill,

No, I don't have the registration number on the wings of my Waco. Only on the rudder. Numbers on the wings would mess up the scallops!!

Cheers!

I've been spending the last couple of evenings installing the servo tray and servos with their respective hook-ups in the servo bay (the bay right behind the wing saddle) and I'll tell you that putting 4 servos into that space requires a contortionist. I've about got it set up the way that it has to go to fit all of them in place. It did require building pedestals to elevate some of the servos to eliminate confilcts with the adjacent servo. The 27% version will be large enough to allow both hands in the bay at the same time. Covering the fuselage comes next.

I'll get some photos taken of the installation and post them later.

Bill,

We run into the same problems on the full-size airplanes too. Sometimes you just can't get your hands in the right places to do the work that needs to be done. Some things are universal in aviation!!

Yep,

Sometimes it pays to have little monkey hands.

I have a Daughter with very small hands who can reach most everything that I can't. Trouble is that she's in Nashville, and I'm down here.

Yesterday, when I arrived home, there was a new mailing tube waiting for me. I couldn't wait to see just what the airplane fairy had brought me, but inside the tube was a set of the original plans that were drawn By Dick Watz years ago for the Waco CSO. I have seen photos of the original model that was made from these plans, and the model is still flying with over 1300 logged flights.

Anyone interested in a set of these?

Bill, Waco Brother #1
