Hey Bill,

Could you update my name at #86 from Mainer Jim to TexasSkyPilot?

Thanks

Jimbo

PS....Hope your move went well and that you're not too exhausted....very few jobs in the world that are worse, no matter HOW well organized things were.

Now, in just a year or two, you'll have everything all unboxed and in their new places. ****SIGH****

I know, I just finished unpacking the last box from well over a year ago when we moved here. You have my sympathy!

Sounds like you have her dialed in just right cant what to see the video.

I’ve been working on hinging the ailerons for the top wing if there’s an easy way to remove the wire from a piano hinge please let me know. I finally got them out 1/2 “at a time.

I’ve just done a first for me. I just purchased an engine for an airplane that doesn’t even exist. I just purchased a new Zenoah GT 80 off of RCU for the much anticipated 29% Waco YMF. Can’t what to see the cowl that will enclose this engine.

Bill,

You’ll be working in your new shop before you know it that is if you can stay off that beautiful front porch looking at the lake and drinking ice tea. LOL LOL

Has anyone had any experience with Nelson Hobby paints. If so, what were the results? Were you pleased? Anything special that needs to be considered when using this paint. Any info on your experience would be deeply appreciated

Nelson has a very good reputation and their paints are well liked.

That being said, I've found Home Depot to be able to provide me with some excellent Latex paints (water-based paints) by the quart that I had great results with. Another friend is getting ready to use it as well any day, he's going to let me know how well he did with it. He's actually going to use a nice Badger sprayer, whereas I used the cheapo sprayer you can get a Home Depot with the little pressure canister that you plug into it. And it worked really well, I was amazed!

Also, Home Depot has about a MILLION colors in flat, Gloss, semi-gloss, you name it. They'll match it for you and everything....

Hope this is of some help.

Good as done. MainerJim is no more.

The move went well, and we are in. They craftsmen are about finished with the interior of the shop, and installing the electrical service so that it will be a real shop. It should be totally functional within a month or so. Everything went into boxes, and so it will take some time to sort through everything. I did find Dan's Moki ritht away.

Mitch,

Yep, still in Leesburg, but over on Lake Harris now (Palmora Park). Dan Hudson was nice enough to come up from Lakeland to help (Millions of thanks, Dan). Janelle is working like a hill of ants to get everything in the house set up, and we can start to see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Bill,

I've been working at it a year now, and the hobby items and tools never seem to leave the boxes and find permanent homes. More and more are slowly finding places that work with the layout, of course, but this process is a slow one. I could "force" the organization, but I'd end up undoing it again and again anyway.

My "shop" of course is my garage, and it will always share the space with many non-hobby items. As soon as I built the set of shelves closest to the door into the house, I prepared to organize them for my finishing materials. I came home the next night, ready to implement my plans, only to find we had expanded our pantry and my lovely lady had claimed all shelves adjacent to the door where stored food would be "Handy".... Being a smart man and a rotten cook, I quickly realized that retreat was my best option, and I am standing here today telling you about it, which means my tactic was successful.

I DID send my own message after that by ceasing all garage development, and have not resumed it. I'm not building shelves and moving myself and all my planes out of the INDOOR rooms only to be invaded in the single room I have left that is mine. I also moved a bunch of planes back inside and have been making vague promises about when I'll get them moved out to the garage again. I was outmaneuvered, but it won't happen again. I haven't the space to spare to have it happen any more!

Sounds like your shop is going to be just right. Looking forward to hearing more about it.

I bought a cable to upload my video, but it wasn't right, so I'll try again tomorrow.

Jimbo

Well, bummer. It started raining HARD this morning and it has been raining ever since. I don't know if the Jim Rice Memorial Fly-In got rained out here, but I know it rained ME out. I'm not going out in that mess.

I left Maine so I wouldn't have to dodge rain cloud on flying days. Not doing it here, period.

The weather forecast went from "Maybe a shower" yesterday for this weekend to "Dark, cloudy and T-Storms" for both days as of this morning..

So my Waco that I worked so hard on for this Fly-In and which flies so great is grounded today. ***SIGH***

I guess I'll go out and see if I can find that Video cable I've been looking for...

We're only allowed to water one day a week for an hour or so.. Most lawns in San Antonio died this year. 65 straight days of 100+ degree weather, usually it was about 105 to 107. The rain is helping them restart, hopefully.

I'm from Maine, getting rained out is a way of life up there. So is getting snowed in. So I didn't really think too much about it, to me getting rained out just is what it is. Go ahead and go shopping or do something else, you can't change the weather. Texas weather is usually sunny and warm and good for flying year round, so I'm not going to complain now that I don't have to deal with the Maine weather....and economy.

Nope, I'm good.

We are allowed 2 days per week. What is the deal? Don't they know that every drop of water that has ever been on Earth is still here (with the exception of that small amount that went out on spacecraft)? Our atmosphere is designed to keep it all here. I think it's a control issue.

RC Planman, I joined in the 70's, around 78 or 79. It was a 4 or 5 digit number.

Late in the 80's I was ill for a time and did not fly for a few years, and did not renew for several years during that time.. When I returned to flying, the AMA could not find my numbers, they had just done their move to their new place and as hard as I hammered them, they couldn't locate the records. Even though I had the actual number. So, since the early 90's I've have this very long, very high AMA number.

I grew up right outside of North Chatham, probably 15 or 20 minutes from your town of East Greenbush. A little town called Malden Bridge.

Red Scholefield of Florida has a 3-digit number in the 900's, I believe. Cliff Piper, a very dear friend of mine who lives in Zephyrhills, Fl, has 444. I've often teased him that I want him to leave me his AMA number in his will. (Can that even be done??)

LOL

We're losing our 3-digit guys more quickly these days. Get to know them while you can, they're the walking, talking treasures of our hobby. I wish Cliff didn't live a thousand miles from me. These guys have a perspective of the hobby and its beginnings that's like stepping back through time. And Red Scholefield, he's probably one of THE battery experts of the whole hobby.

Yeah, it's a little off-subject, but then again, it's not. These 3-digit numbers are as old as these Wacos we build models of....

TexasSky Pilot, I used to have a friend who had a 600? number [ who's now gone] and that was the lowest I had heard of .
Would be interesting to know when that person who has the 444 number joined. They /we have seen
maney changes in our hobby, mostly for the better, and I agree the $48 it costs is very little.CHEERS, rcplanman

Thanks, Tony.

So that would make my old one a 5-digit number. I was thinking about it through the day and had decided I remembered it as a 5-digit, not a 4.
