Anthony,

I still gawk at pictures of your "Pepino" WACO. As you probably remember I have seen Ken's in Person and it is beautiful and you took your just a bit further. Plus I love the blue. Anyway....

Those pictures from both of you sure show a lot of great work. I've probably got to get a new cowl made anyway, so I'll be sure to have a suitable gap for the Saito. I absolutely don't want to hack up the cowl any more than necessary to get the muffler ring out of the fuse.

Just curious... what about the top center airfoil shows as incorrect? It looks like the airfoil might not line up perfect with the outer sections... is that it?

I keep reading about and seeing pictures of planes that are painted with Krylon or Automotive spray paint... some day I'm going to give it a try. Maybe on this plane.

I really like the detail on the ailerons and fuse... lots of nice work. Mine's going be more of a weekly flyer. I'll just dream of the stuff you guys are building!

Nice detail.. thanks for sharing.

So, on a cloth covering, what prep is required before painting? I've done some airbrushing on cowls, spinners, etc.. before, but never tackled the entire plane . 21st Century is supposed to be somewhat of a gloss finish, although the pictures I have don't really reflect that.

Thanks to all for the welcome, and to Stickbuilder Bill for the new number (146). This is a little larger than my old number (68), and likely won't fit on the jersey as well, but I will wear it with pride on the now near-mythical WB T-shirt, should the oppourtunity present itself (make mine about 2-3x, or offensive line large...).

Bill, I understand from the roster that there is a WACO sisterhood as well. Let me explain my situation. I have a wife (nothing too remarkable there). My wife flies R/C (fairly rare). Like me, she is an ex-Pattern competitor (starting to get pretty rare). She has flown at 9 Nats, and when we retired from competition in 2003, she was competing very succesfully in Masters class (Ok, now that's pretty rare). She is an AMA Leader Member, an active Contest Director, a three-term president of our club, and a former NSRCA District VP. She flies everything I have in the hanger, and has her own DA-100 powered Yak 54.

She will no doubt fly this WACO I'm building, and fly it pretty darned well. She will, as time permits, help in the build. When I was vacillating between building a Bucker Jungmeister or this WACO, she picked the WACO. Joanie has always been one of the boys throughout our thirty years of modeling together.

And thus my dilemma. Is this pilot a candidate for WACO sisterhood, or is this actually another WACO brother in drag with some minor gender issues? We will accept your decision, Sir.

She is:

Joan Anastasio
AMA 1207

And I am outta here. Have to go drip glue on WACO parts.

Rick

She can join anyway she wants. I just need her nickname so we know what to call her, and get her to tell us if she wants to be a Brother/Sister. The choice is hers.

Take a close look at the front/side view (Plate 2) of the Paul Matt drawing above. The upper surfaces of the center ribs match the outer ribs but the underside reflexes up (dotted line) to meet the shortened trailing edge in the center. Center ribs are the Clark Y-57; the main ribs are Clark Y with a 57" total chord as shown on Plate 1 (Top view, lower left side). The ribs in between the center and main ribs are modified accordingly to have a smooth transition from the main section to the center section. None of the photos I have show this well although it is easy to see when looking at the full size.

These are probably the best pics I have of the top center shape,
The trailing edge taperes up from the bottom not down fom the top. This keeps the wing surface smooth along the top.

Ahhh... now it's more clear, thanks. I still can't tell from my shadowy picture, but I do understand what you're talking about. I guess once you've been through the build, you know what to look for.

Hey John,

Thank you for the information on the Monocoupe!  I decided that at first I'm going to use a Sullivan standard spring-gear set as it's much more scale than what comes with the kit, and although it really isn't close to scale at all, at least it will sit nearer where the tail gear should be located.  Giving the impression of being correct is better than looking wrong even from a distance!

Are there any scale or scale-ish tail gear available for 25% models?

Jimbo

T-Shirts..T-Shirts!!!!!!!!!!
Having had conversations with WB #1 I've been "selected" to collect for and have made our Brotherhood T-Shirts. New art work will cost approximately $100 and each shirt (min of 100 pieces) will be sold for $12 up to size XL. 2 and 3XL will cost a buck more. That price will include mailing. So..........I need a commitment of 75 shirts to cover the start-up cost which I'll foot for when I get that many orders.
I'll need a check (which I won't cash until I mail your order) up front along with your complete mailing address along with the size and quantity of shirts desired. Mail to
Mitch Epstein 651 North Main St. Leominster,MA 01453
The shirts will be burgundy...top quality Hanes...and the front logo will be yellow/gold and the back will have the full YMF as we had before.
This has to be done with snail mail so I can have the checks in hand before I commit to the vendor. If there isn't enough interest after 60 days the checks will be returned to you.
I'm estimating that it'll take 30 days to produce the shirts once we have 75 total ordered. Mitch Waco Brotherhood 100

I'm in for one T-shirt.

Do you want the cheque (check) sent now or will we be advised if/when there is enough interest?

I'm in for two shirts; one a Large, and the other one larger, like a 3XL (all T shirts shrink, even the good brands). Check (including extra buck penalty for taking up too much space on the planet) on the way soon.

Bill, her name is just Joanie, and it always has been. Only other nickname she ever had was "Joanie No Baloney", immotalized by some co-workers on a T shirt (might tell you a little about her attitude...) long ago.

She says put her down for a WACO Sister. Seems to be a female solidarity thing, but she says it will avoid confusion. Soo... Lady Cursor, Joanie call her whatever you want, just don't call her late for her turn to fly. Makes her testy.

Well, I'm off this morning for a little throat surgery. Should be a piece of cake.

Later,

Rick Allison

There seems to be plenty of interest in the shirts!!!!!!!!!!
Guys....you have to send me your info by snail mail along with a check....$12 each for up to XL and $13 each for XXL and XXXL. Posting an order on this site or PM'ing me won't do it. Start sending the orders to me now.
I'm setting up an old fashioned paper folder and all the envelopes will go into it until I get 75 shirts ordered. No checks will be cashed until they're ready to be shipped. Guesstimating under 90 days. I'll post info on delivery when and if.........
