John,

Are you snowed in?

Bill, Waco Brother #1

South West Ontario, we got clobbered by a snow storm last night and still snowing,(15cm. to 25 cm) storm originating from Texas. Just finished clearing up the snow, unfortunately the snow plough made two passes which blocked our drive after I cleared it all up.....SOBs.

25cm - that's about 10 inches. Chickenfeed! . But like you said, it's the 3 or 4 feet that the snowplow dumps at the end of your drive that's the killer!!

Thanks Bill!!
Actually, I am a gum doctor - aka periodontist.
I will briefly relate my R/C Waco story: in 1978 I saw a Platt Waco flying with one of the original OS 60 (open rocker) 4-strokes. It was the most realistic flying and sounding R/C model I had ever seen and it left a lasting impression. I have always wanted a kit but seemed to just miss out on *bay and swaps - at least until last Friday. I now am the proud owner of a pristine Pica 1/6 scale kit. I'm not sure when I will build it but I now know where to come with questions.
Thanks again.
Craig

DRCRAIG,

Be sure to read the modifications in the Revised Short Manual on the House of Moy site http://www.houseofmoy.com/waco/ as they can be applied to the 1/6th as well as the 1/5th scale Wacos. The engine mount mod will give you more flexability in choosing an engine and moving the tail wheel forward will help with the scale appearance. And dual aileron servos will enhance controlability over the single servo with belcranks. Just be sure to use the appropriate size wood for the mods: example - 1/4" for the 1/5th may be too thick so use 3/16" instead. Light flys better than heavy so substitute lighter wood if need be. The 1/6th does not have the latitude to go all out on extra detail that the bigger Waco planes do but you can do a creditable job if you are careful.

hi dr
skylark mark is right on about the alirons i found a crashed waco next to a trash can in 1989 and was told that model sucks i was wasting my time so i took it home the controls wher all slopy i put two servos in the wings and pul pul on the ruder and elivator then checked the wing incidence and corected it the model had ben built strait but the controls were lose after that it flew grate one of our better pilots at the field said he had flown the waco and could not belive how well i was flying it i then met the original owner and let him fly it every body loved that plane so i would say for sure use two alirons

Isn't it amazing how many mouths drop open when you bring a previously judged POS back to the field, rebuilt, and proceed to fly it like you stole it. Been There, Done That. You always hear how there was a problem with the radio, or engine, never that the setup was ham handed in execution.

Bill,

Can you tell me what it takes or what is required to join the Waco Brotherhood? I just received my kit today, it is a 1/5 scale Pica Waco YMF3 kit, it was made (the kit) right before they stopped making the kit.

Bill,

Thank you very much. I am sure that you know this kit well, the good and the bad of it. I have a lot of reading to do and some research that must be done. Then I will start the build and I will be totally lost (lol). Okay, I am going back to my reading.

Good morning Brotherhood.
I would like to toss my hat in the ring for the Brotherhood.  I have completed my 1/5 Waco and had a successful maiden.  Even with the crosswind that crept up at our field.  I must admit I am addicted now and looking forward to building another one.  A little about my Waco, it is a 1/5 Pica I picked it up from a friend who was selling it for a friend who passed away.  I paid $50 for the partially built kit.  The fuse was framed but was badly done.  The rest was still in the box.  I cut out the offending parts on the fuse and rebuilt it using this forum as a guide.  For power I installed a Saito 100 swinging a 16X4 APC.  It flies very scale.  I found so much useful information here I have been telling everyone who is interested in my plane, to check the forum.  I have a lot of scale features on my Waco as I intend to use it for scalemaster qualifiers in my area.  The test flight was pleasantly uneventful, it just simply does what you tell it with no complaints or bad habits.  It is a dream to fly.  Anyway I would love to be part of the Brotherhood since I am now addicted, and will be building another one with more scale features.

Thanks
Larry

Bill,

I am sure I will ask many questions, but in time. For now I just sit back and read and learn so much from all of you.

Well Hello Waco nut's!
Would like to give a great big thank's to mrdhud for the assintance of getting started on a waco.
If he had not brought his beautiful plane to the field more than likely I would not have called him this morning and said, ' How do I get started'.
Now I'm waiting on supplies and reading this thread. You guy's do great work.

Robert,

See you at Top Gun. A few years ago, I met Dan at your field, and he found out who I was. I lived in Leesburg at the time, and Dan and I struck up a good, long lasting friendship. I'm so proud of the job that he did, I could bust. He did the first one from the plan set and templates. Great job too. I'm looking forward to another Waco in Bartow.

Hello all,

Welcome DR Craig, John, Larry to the Brotherhood. Looking forward in seeing your build.
Robert, Just ask Bill to become a Brother and he’ll give you a #. Bill is the one that hand traced all the parts and donated them to the AMA and made it possible for the Waco to live on (Thanks Bill) I was vary lucky to meet him he gave me the confidence I needed to build mine.

I just found out one of the bad thing about living in Florida we have sink holes and I found out last week my house is sitting on what the insurance man calls a 10 to 13 ft deep rather large one. Not sure what to do yet.
