Guys
My Z230 with Zenoah has a strange problem. It is about 4 months old the chopper that is and ran fine the first three. Now after it runs 4 to 6 minutes the engine gets hits like it's an ignition problem. The engine will start fine cold but after one of these episodes it can be a little hard to restart but does does. I am pretty shure it's ignition related but don't want to throw money at it yet. Have checked all the other possible causes and every thing looks ok. Anybody with any ides please respond would like to get the pucker facter out of this machine.

Kind of sounds fuel related, not ignition. It's possible the coil is overheating, after the four to six minutes. I would swap the coil with someone, before buying one. It really sounds like the carb diaphrams are weak. Did you try opening the high speed say, one turn, to see if it gets real rich? If you don't see a big change, then the carb needs rebuilding.

I have checked the fuel system very close can make it run so rich it smokes like crazy sounds like a four stoke. But it still drops after 4 to 6 minutes. Also kind of hard to restart till it cools starts and dies Thanks

Yes
Full tank or anywhere down from there. It will start and run fine 4 to 6 minutes does not care where the fuel level is. Fuel tank is plumed so it has suction to carb, return to tank from carb, and vent to atmosphere from tank 3 lines. Thanks

Do you have a kill switch? Is the switch in the red wire or the black. Should be in the black. Also, check the coil ground to the engine block. Lastly, swap the coil.

I had the same problem with a new G23 in a Z230. It was the coil and they covered it under warranty. I thought it was fuel related and it drove me nuts!

Do not have a kill Switch use the trim to kill it. The coil I suspect it acts like this is the problem. But still open to all ideas Thanks

An engine needs four basic things to run. fuell, spark, air and compression. Something that happens only few min after starting the engine must not be (at first)an air problem. Check compression after and before, if equal then check the spark taking away the plug and grounding it to see if you still have or not. If all the three checks are ok then you should have a carb problem. Check the wide joint between the carb and the cylinder to see if it was bend or broken. Check also the carb temperature after these 5 min. to see if itīs hot a bit because if so you loosing some fuell are evaporated. (may be due to a bad temp isolation with the wide joint or due to an overheated engine.

The Z230 is the model designation of JR's discontinued gas heli. The G230 is a Zenoah. Not sure what you're asking.

OK , I wasn't sure who made the Z230. I have a G231 engine in my Bergan Intrepid.

Change the plug, reset the needles. Sounds like your plug is fouled. Try that first for a cheap fix.
