Hi Tom,

Well, with my mind finaly made up to go with the Cap and 3W, i have a couple more questions!! 1, Do you stock/and/or/sell 3w's and JR equipment, so i could one stop shop???. 2, In a PM to me you stated i would be able to go with canisters for the Cap, do you know if they would be front exit or rear exit, and your sure that 2 canisters will fit, knowing that they'll need room for separation and cooling. Before anyone tells me to just go with stock, let me stop you. The one and only flying site close to me is being encroatched by new home building, so the canisters will be a deal breaker for me to keep pease with the incoming home buyers. I'll need to make the plane as quiet as posible with respect to exaust and prop selection.

MAN, now i'm gettin excited

ooo that sounds fun, what engine are you getting? there is enough room for 2 cannisters for sure but I don't know anything about them.

I know Tom handles JR servos since I just ordered 4 from him. I don't know about the 3W though. Seems he did awhile back.

I can supply JR and 3w, but I do not keep the 3w in stock.

Without knowing exactly what you have planned I can't guarantee anything, but from looking at the KS specs I am pretty sure that 2 of them will fit nicely. They are only 2" OD, so with a half inch between them and a half inch on either side it's still only 5 1/2".

Tom, Thats great news!!!

What i have planned is basicly the same thing as bens project, with a little personal tweaking, here's the planned rundown........

Wild Hare 85" red Cap 232 (will get this from you)
3W-56b2 twin (will need to buy this)
2 Canister mufflers and headers (exact brand and type undecided, will need to buy these)
JR-8611A's or the newest 8611C's (if their released by then) on ALL surfaces (will need to buy these)
JR-8101's on throttle and choke (will need to buy these)
JR-955 RX (i have these in stock)
JR-10X TX (i have these in stock)

That's the plan list, i think the combination will work well for my style of flying. I'm basicly a pattern flyer at heart. Lots of years on the west coast pattern circut going up through the ranks. Very little to no fixed wing 3D experience, i never had any intrest to learn it, and in fact, i thought it was kindof rediculess until just recently, my mind started changing on this a little. Truth be said, i still view a scale propeller plane "hovering" as totally rediculess and completely nonscale, and it is, HOWEVER (must say this BEFORE i get blasted ) I want to try it and evan if i don't like it after trying it, i'll still come away from the experience a better pilot and have a lotta laughs in the process and after all, thats what this hobby is all about So it's a WIN WIN situation right ?!!

BTW, what is the length/width/and depth of the pipe tunnel ?? I'll start researching my canister options (all new to me )

There is not a built-in pipe tunnel. Once you relocate the gas tank the floor is clear all the way from the engine to the wing tube.
I don't have one in front of me to measure but I know a MTW TD75K will fit, and that's what I keep in stock.

The recommended prop for the 3W 56 is a 22X10, but I recently switched to a 23X8. The difference was night and day and so I recommend that prop whatever you're going to do. Also, be sure to get the best geometry set up for your elevator servos. The plane became so much better once I programmed my servos and you can't do that with the JR 8611's.

Tom,

So what your saying is i'll need to relocate the fuel tank, then open up the bottom of the firewall and box-frame my own tunnel ??. That will be doable, i'm sure i can do that without too much drama, so that will be the plan....

Ben,

Thats great info on the prop selection. I'm at high altitude, so i'll need to experiment with props anyway until i find the combo suited to my locatation, so your numbers are a good place to start. On the servos, i have to respectfully disagree with you though. On my Jets, i run each ail. and each elev. on a seperate channel giving me complete programming of each surface. The JR 10X has built in dual elev. and dual ail. programs for this making it a snap to program. At the speeds my jets fly, and having full flying stabs, having the elevators in sinc. is a must for safe flight. This same setup path will be followed on the Cap and should work perfectly.

Well, I don't know anything about JR TX's, but I use a Futaba 9C and it has to do the math so that the servos have the same endpoints. What I meant doing is setting up both servos so that you get the same amount of servo throw per degrees of control surface movement. I.E. you get 60 degrees each way on the servos and 55 degrees each way of elevator throw. That way, they will be dead nuts on all the way through the travel range. I don't have anything against JR servos, but I'm just telling you this because once I set it up the servos for equivalent throws and then programmed them, the plane flew a lot better. I use Hitec, but some of the guys I fly with use JR 8611's and it doesn't make a difference to me. I think Futaba also makes a good servo.

I'm also at high altitude (5000 ft.) and the 23X8 has been the best prop on the plane. The only thing better would be a Vess, but they aren't out yet.

The JR 10X also has a servo speed adjustment feature that helps a few things out. End and center points are also adjustable with the 10X. It has a lot of very nice features that have been in use for quite some time and until fairly recently were not availabe on most other high end competiton radios. The high price kept most people from buying it unless they had a specialized need such as competition, jets, and so on. That also kept a lot of info on what a great radio it is out of the usual public view.

Essentially a 10X will bring most situations to a "doable" level without the need of a programmer. It takes awhile to learn all that it can do though.

The 10X has a dual elev. mix program that is quite a bit more advanced then anything else i've seen. The right elev. servo plugs into the #3 elev. port, and the left elev. servo plugs into the #8 aux3 port. dual elev. mix is selected, individual rev. and subtrim is done next, then, set the desired throws for all three rates on the right (master) elev.......when satisfied, touch a function called "trace rate" (on the same page) and the left (slave) elev. is matched (EXACTLY) to the master.

The real key to as perfect a setup as posible that is also the very thing alot of guys miss in their setup is this......use as little subtrim as posible!!!! zero is best. Servos have gotten such a bad rap and taken the blame of mismatched surface throw way too many times, when the sad fact was that the mechanical setup was not exactly matched. If your mechanical matching is not exactly matched, you will end up with mechanical differential, and if thats not cought, you end up with different numbers in subtrim and atv from side to side. I've seen this on many peoples planes..

Like Silversurfer said, the 10X does in fact have the very best features available and it can do some amazing things, BUT, To get the most out of it (or any radio for that matter), the best flying airplanes or Jets, were still setup mechanicly correctly first.

My local field is at 7000 ft., so i tend to not fly there much, but the dry lake i fly at most of the time is only at 3000 ft., and if i drive off the hill to fly with my Dad, his local field is only at a couple hundred feet, but at a cost of a 2 hr. drive each way

Well, I only got 4 flights on the CAP this weekend, but I'm getting another prop for it. I invested in a Vess 23A prop for the 3W 56. Should be a potent combination.
