Hi, I am going to buy a new radio and I want some suggestions on them. What is a good one for under $100 or $150?

Futaba 3PM, Hitek CRX, Airtronics MX-3 are all good radios. I would add the JR XS-3 to the list, it's a little more money than those three, but it is synth as well... dial your frequency rather than buying and swapping crystals. I think you should be able to find one for under $150 if you look around.

If you want a decent FM computer radio, you're pretty much getting a 3 channel. I don't know of any good 2 channel options. You're not paying more for the 3rd channel imo, it's the extra features you're paying for. The only thing i've used my 3rd channel for is to plug a transponder into it on the receiver.

What about a good radio for under $40? I always buy brand new Traxxas TQ3 radios from EBAY. I bought a radio from ebay once for only $15. They work flawlessly for me, I don't see why people shell out so much money for a radio. I use the TQ3 in my Losi xxx 4g+, Associated b2, and e-maxx of course, but it is modified for 4 wheel steer, end point adjustments because I use 300oz/in hitec 5955 digital servos.

If you are electronically inclined, you can modify that radio to have end point adjustments for use with digital servos, and make the 3rd channel control rear steering if that is what you are interested in. I can post a link to how you can modify it yourself if you want. For the same price as a 3pm I can buy and modify 4 radios.

Because computer radios with LCD always look cooler.

J/K. Exponential and dual rates steering/throttle, multiple models memory, programmable mixing etc are some pretty nice features to have. A 3PM sure beats several modified stock radios imo, for the same cost the 3PM offers a lot more. Nevertheless, whatever works for you is good.

Stored multiple model memory, character naming, more adjustability, there are MANY variables in a nice computer radio. The Hitec CRX/SRX are an awesome line of radios. They are sleek, loaded with features, and fits like a glove, it doesn't have as many features as an M11 or Sensor 2, but it's a great radio for the price. Plus you can get it synthesized and run multiple models, definately a top notch piece of equipment.

The only features the TQ3 doesn't have are dual rates, exponential rates, and end point adjustments. But if you are handy with a soldering iron, you can install end point adjustment potentiometers yourself.

Also, mixing with a 3rd channel is good, however it is still not independant. I seriously considered a mixing radio so I can crab walk, and 4 wheel steer but I needed independant 4WS, and only a modified radio can do that.

Like I said, I can post a link here showing how to modify the TQ3 to have end point adjustment and to make the 3rd channel steering or however you want to use it. All for under $40.

In my opinion, at that price it can't be beat, and modifying radios isn't as hard as you think. If you are soldering up battery packs, you can do this too.

I know there are a few people interested in what I am doing. I am not trying to say my radio is better than yours, but I am saying for a very cheap price you can get a time tested, durable radio and if needed, modify it to handle high torque digital servos just like the pros.

Trust me, I can go shell out money for a high priced radio with tons of features. It was funny last night because I took my brand new Losi xxx 4g+ with novak 5.5r brushless to the track, and this little kid came up and said, it is funny you are running this hot car with brushless, but you have a stock tq3 radio. I just said it does everything I need and doesn't glitch, and I only spent $30 on it shipped on ebay. That car is about a $800 vehicle in parts alone with the servos, motor, and the chassis. My e-maxx? Well just look in my gallery. It is totally custom 4-link, 4 wheel steer, Novak HV-Maxx, digital servos, roll cage, its hot and its price tag is about $1300 in just parts.

All I am saying is I can afford high priced radios, but I go with these cheap TQ3 for their reliability, range, and trouble free service. I have never had problems with them.

As far as the best the Profi 301 should be on the list as well only one in that price range with 60Hz speed, PC interfacable, and more mixing. NO I do not sell them Hitec does.
