A buddy and I are considering entering the combat side of the hobby. I just witnessed combat first hand this weekend, and am already hooked. We are both skilled pilots, but are looking for some do's and don'ts. Any suggestions on where to buy? I think since we don't plan to compete cometitively, we will be going the .15 route. I'd prefer a foam wing, standard type tail with aileron control. Thanks everyone!

A good place to start would be the RCCA web site, http://www.rccombat.com Register as a guest in both the "guest forum" and the "topic forums" and start asking questions.

You referred to 15 size, did you happen to be at the Tyler, TX SSC event this weekend. We did have a ball flying on Saturday. It was the one of the first if not the first Slow Surviable Combat only events held and was a huge sucess.

If you're looking for 15 size kits, you can go to http://screamingeaglerc.com and look at the Bandito, which is what I'm currently flying or you can get with Lee Liddle on the RCCA forums and get one of his flying wing SSC "Falcons".

The "Open Issues" section of the "Topics Forum" is a great place to do some reading about the current status of open combat. There's also a "Scale Issues" forum if that's your interest.

If you're interested in building something from scratch, you can check out the information on the "HOR" in the SPAD section of the topic forum also. There were several of them flying this weekend also.

Joe Thompson from Houston was at the event and would be a good local contact to get started also. In the RCCA forums he goes by ThoJo

I typically fly combat every sunday from 10am til 2 or 3pm at a field near Ellington in South Houston, near the belt.

Send me an email at thojo@foxwaredesign.com and I'll help you out as best I can.

If you come on out, everybody will be more than happy to answer any questions you have and get you started on this madness. There are some great kits out there, or we can set you up with some inexpensive kits to get started on, or I could help you build a SPAD, which is the least expensive way to get into the hobby.

We typically fly .15's on sundays, so you'd fit right in!
