I posted this in the scale section, but I came to realize that its better placed in the Warbirds section.

I've stumbled onto a deal where I can get a built scale Bearcat, its engine, and a Futaba 4 Channel radio system for $300.00 and I was wondering what you guys might think of the deal.

The plane was built and flown by an experienced modeler who is moving to larger scale airplanes. He has a good rep as a builder and pilot as I've come to find out.

It has been in the air some 40 or so times and is a few years old, but in prime shape. Its a built up kit (though at this point I don't know the manufacturer, I will be getting the plans for it though) that has been covered and then airbrushed, has a 52" wingspan with no retracts. On the whole detailed very well, with scale gun barrels in the wings, and a nice cockpit and canopy.

The engine is a .45 FSX that has reportedly never been run lean. On the whole the plane could be gassed up and flown right now, even though its been sitting "in the barn" for a while.

There is more, but thats the bare bones of it. What do you think, should I hop on it?

My feeling is yes, even though I don't have a need for the radio.

Thanks for the input.

Sounds pretty good to me. The Fx46 is one of my favorite engines. With this engine and a radio system installed, and it sounds like the plane was put togther with care, not just thrown together I think its a pretty good deal. I would be sure to cycle the batterys and then get a reading on them before flying though. I have watched a couple of used planes fly great for 5 minutes. Then the receiver battery goes dead and the plane turns to a slight angle an starts heading for the ground followed by an aweful sound. :

I bought the plane a few days ago and have already swapped out the rx and tx NiCads. I've also run the engine through a couple of tanks of fuel and tached it so I could get an idea of what to expect from it.

I've checked the CG and lateral balance and both are right on the money.

I fell into a great deal here, and when the ground turns green instead of white, I look forward to flying it.
