Well, after a easy 50-60 flights put my name on the "Popped Out Gear List".

I was low on fuel and some guy kept hogging the runway and taking his time to walk off. My engine was revving up and down in the air and he was on the runway so I couldn't land. The moment he walked off, my engine quit and when I was coming in the gear caught the grass off the side of the runway. The gear plate and everything attached to it broke, putting the wheel pants into the wing, but only one went completely in.

I don't think this was a structural problem of the plane. The landing was hard, but really not that hard. I've seen worst landings survive.

Sooo... anyone have any tips on reparing?

capt1597 what i did was rotate the carb assembly to avoid contact with the mount, and to allow the push rod to operate freely. here are some pics of mine if you need more just let me know. some are not so good but i can get better ones if needed.

I mounted the 150 at 90* and rotated the carb so the needle is on top. As I stated earlier I ground off some of the mount and used a panhead bolt so it all fit.
I used a flexible brass throttle cable with a Z-Bend into the throttle arm. Ran the cable through some tubing and it works fine.
A also used about a 2" piece of the flex tubing in the high speed needle and covered it with fuel tubing so it doesn't wear the cowl.

Sorry if the question was already asked. Did anyone try a 26cc gas engine in this plane? Reading about it, it looks like the Zenoah 26EI could fit. I am not looking for ultra 3D performance but precision flying.

I am quite sure a bib will be required! Looking at all or the pics on here is killing me. Was a LHS screw up. Instead of ordering direct from AW, the owner of the LHS told me he wanted to place an order with them, and the more he ordered, obviously, the more he saves. So, I try to support the LHS every chance I get, very nice to have a good one that close. Anyways, looks like Tuesday will be the day. Have everything but the plane. Had the servos and reciever all hooked up on the table playing around, er uh, I mean checking them out, and the wife walked in and said, now thats pathetic. (maybe the airplane noise I was making was a bit much)

A 26cc gas would fly this weight great for pattern, I would think. Mine comes in at 10 lb 8oz with an OS160, Bisson Pitts muffler and an APC 18x6 prop. An Xoar 18x6 wood prop makes it 2 oz lighter.

Thanks. Actually I'm looking for the airframe weight (doing an e-conversion). Any idea of the total weight of your components (engine, rx, servos, etc..)

Another question for everyone: How much can this plane be pushed for AUW and still have a good IMAC flyer do you think?

In converting this to electric running A123 cells (10s1p), I'm thinking the AUW will come in at a hair over 11#. So let's say it's 11.25#, that would increase the wing loading to around 26.8. Think that's too much for this bird to handle?

frankie!---west system epoxy is an ideal glue for repairing landing gear foundations.it isway stronger than the epoxies used in the modeling world.its working time at room temp is30to50minute and is unlimited below 50 degrees (it is winter here in ohio) the viscosity is closer to paint then hobby epoxies. if you coat all the parts and reasemble using pins or clamps (put wax paper between clamp glue)IT WILL BE STRONGER than the original structure. i fly off of a privite grass strip that is a little tough on hard landings . my first number of planes all had to be repaired in this way and they never broke again. i have since opted to pre-coat inside and out all landing gear areas as well as engine rooms onall my more recent builds ,including this Yac,and have not had a tear-out since. please note it takes 24hrs to cure. do not get anxiuos. one can buy west system epoxy at any m
