It is interesting that the first 44 pages of this thread have no mention of the landing gear problem that those of us are experiencing on recent models.
I wonder if there has been a change in construction or materials in that area by Aeroworks
????

I am surprised that there is no response by the representative of Aero-Works on this subject. I found them to be a responsive supplier, part(s) were missing from my box and they sent them to me fast. If there is a problem, and too late to correct it (I imagine production runs quantities must be large) a response or a posting on their Web site will go a long way to satisfy what seems to be a very happy (with their products) clientele.

Today I finished what usually is a stressing procedure: cutting the cowl holes... It went very well in no small part because of the 3 holes templates provided with the model. That's a very nice detail....
I am planning to re-inforce the cowl with some epoxied strips of a very thin wood (I think it has a Japanese name that escapes me right now), quite strong.... Also in the area where the mounting holes are. Leftovers from another built.

But the snow is STILL out there....

Many of you mentioned that the elevator (and/or the other control surfaces) are very responsive if set to the recommended throws.
Can you tell me what will be reasonable throws for the controls, besides the ones recommended? Say, something OK for first flights?

I can setup 3 different throws besides exponentials....

Give me the movements in inches, please....

THanks!

My thoughts exactly..

I painted the inside of my cowl with thinned epoxy and applied fiberglass tape around the area of each hole and cutout. Works well. Also use rubber-backed washers on all the canopy and cowl screws.

After 50 flights, one of the tail wheel springs broke at the bend in the metal plate. I was able to refasten both sides by making them shorter but if they break again???
I can find at least 4 companies (Dubro, Hobbico, Sullivan, Great planes) that make that type of spring adjusted tail wheel but no one sells the springs??
I needs to be 3mm x 55 - 60 mm.

Tower must have 50 pages of springs, mostly for cars, but none for tail wheels?? I have a couple of Sullivan springs that I could use if needed.

Check post #1108. Pg 45. I listed my throws on a Futaba 7 CAP.

Tom, it doesn't help me to know the % settings in the radio. I have a different radio, maybe different servos, maybe different arms and maybe I use different holes in the arms and control horns.... Only measuring travel (and not degrees) in each control surface will really help me...

I am pretty demanding, aren't I?

Thanks!!!!

The plane comes with the rubber-backed washers and you do not need to buy them.

The springs that come with the plane weren't stiff enough for me so I got some good springs from the local Ace hardware store. They have a pretty good selection of different lengths and thicknesses of springs. I have great steering on mine.

I just added more expo to mine and that solved the problem.

My thoughts are throws and expo are very personal to each pilot.....The throws on my plane are bevel to bevel on elevator/ailerons and so the rudder just clears the elevator with 70% expo on all surfaces! No dual rates and I don't find the plane sensitive at all......with no switches to flip or remember.....I also find this plane easy to land softly and I have been flying the basic IMAC routine and intermediate pattern with great sucsess.
I don't think this setup would work for alot of you out there but it is how 90% of my planes adjusted------as much throw as you can get and a lot of expo

when i first read your ideas about your radio setup i thought that might be to much for me and then i was reading radio setups on the TROY BUILT MODELS web page and they suggest the same if three d is going to be part of ones flight. i bought this plane to attempt to learn the skill of three d and so i have set up my plane this way and will give a whirl as soon as the snow melts (we got a fresh 5ins. last night) thanks for sharing.

WOW, 70% expo? Seems like that would make it handle like a school bus. If I put my expo's over 55%, seems I start chasing the plane (3D). Then again, thats with DS821 servo's. These Hitec's are the first nice servo's I've had, havent flown yet, so may find it different.
