The 1.80 combo with this bird is awesome!

What size prop are you using? I've got an APC 18x6W on mine and although it's a heavy prop, it pulls the plane around nicely. I think I'll go with a wood prop to see how the engine performs.

I've got an 18x5 Zinger, with 20% nitro, its turning about 8900 RPM. I have a 17x4W APC I'm going to try also. Last time I put a 17x4W on the 180, it was on a Funtana. Was turning 9600 RPM on 30%. The 18x5 Zinger is nice, being able to hover at 1/3 throttle, or actually a little less I think. Maiden day and all, my knees and thumbs were shakin too bad to tell.

Wow! Congrats!
What a nice array of planes hanging from that wall....
And you did a great job on the cowl....

Saito 1.80! I put an OS 1.20 2C and installed a 6V battery on top of the firewall box plus 1 oz. to balance to the recommended CG. I assume you had no problems installing the battery in the fuse cavity.

Now, at the risk of repeating myself I am waiting for the snow to disappear and then leave a lake in our field for a few weeks... there is hope, temperatures are rising....

The 6v battery is on the forward side of the wing tube, just shy of touching it. No weight added anywhere, except additional weight of the 180. But the 180 is what I had, so I went with it. I'm going to move the battery aft of the tube and see what happens, would like it to be a little more tail heavy, than recommended.

Here in Quebec we are fighting with a Provincial Governement agency that wants to expell all Clubs from farmland, which is where 99% of them are and you show me that photo, built by the City! GREEN GREEN GREEN

Tail heavy aircraft are uncontrollable but... I am not passing judgement in your piloting skills... I am of the non-3D variety....

Again, kudos for the "wallpaper" you have at home...

I am hoping not to reach uncontrollable, just a little less stable than it is at recommended CG.

For the CG, is 3 3/8 " back from the tip LE still recommended (as in the manual) ? I just want to make sure there have been no addendums/changes .... before I maiden mine this coming week. Not doing 3D, just IMAC type flying. Have a Zen G26 in it. thanks. Bob

Then 3 3/8 will be perfect, and is still the recommended. Slow rolls are very nice, as well as 8's, KE's, ect. Its very stable at that CG, just a little snappy with high rate elevators. Low rate elevators do not snap at all. This plane rocks!!!!!!! Well worth the money. Let us know how the gasser works out. Was thinking about an SPE. The Saito 180 is great, but its very thirsty

Yah, I know!!! I get 8-10 minutes with a 24oz tank! If it was a gasser it would be around 20 minutes.

For the c.g., a little back than the recommended has worked out great for me. I have the battery and receiver at the recommended location.

Hey Frankie,
No wonder you moved the CG back abit with all that fuel just behind the engine pulling the CG forwards With the MVVS 26 gas/petrol I have a 12oz tank and that can do 20 minutes

BalsaBob,

Did your engine come with a carb trumpet/velocity stack? If so it is best to fit it, the engine runs better (leaner) and you do not get wasted fuel all over your plane.
