I just lost an edge 540 to flutter that stripped the gears in the ailerons servos. couldn't bring it back. Was wondering if this plane would respond to a Saito 125. What throttle would it require to hover.

Thanks

bbell

Take a look at this RCU Review. It will answer your questions for the 1.25.

Deffinately ck out the review. The 125 will not be enough for 3D. It will fly the plane nicely for some pattern and sport flying though.

I have decided on selling my Yak 54 to fund another project. It has never seen fuel, and is all brand new. Here is a link to it. http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemID=417392

well today could have been a real bad day for my yak. 2nd flight this morning a clevis broke on the right aileron on a high speed roll and fluttered violently. i cut the throttle and nursed her in and saved it. i fixed it and later today i dumbthumbed it and it landed in a corn field. 3 hrs later of looking for it i found it completly unharmed. not even a hole in the covering. i decided that was the end of my day. by the way for the saito 150 powered ones what prop do you guys like. i have a xoar 17/5 and a 16/8 and the 16/8 seems to be the best on the upline. but its not a strong as i thought it would be. so i want to try some different props and or manufacturers. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Take a look at the Vess sport line of props. They seem to create a lot more power and put a lot less load on the engine.

I used an APC 16/8 on my Saito 150. Flew very well till it lost a head-on battle with the runway

A 17x4W APC would give you the best vertical, and hover with minimal torque roll. Cant see alot of 3D with a 16x8. I have the 180, and I use a 17x4W. It goes almost as fast vertically as it does horizontally. Just received a Xoar sword 17x6, but have not tried it yet. 18x6 Zinger was absolute garbage. I plan on trying the Vess 17x6 also. I would have to use 30% nitro to properly spin an 18x6, so I'm sticking with 17x4, and 17x6. I can afford 15% nitro. But I'm burning 1.5 gallons or more a week.

I'm running an APC 18x6W and a Vess sport 18x6. Both seem to be great props. The Vess puts a lighter load on the engine, but it doesn't seem to pull as hard as the APC, but the APC puts a bigger load on the engine.

I haven't tried a 17 prop, but I did have a Zinger 16x8 in the beginning and that seemed to be a great prop also, but was a little too fast for style of flying.

I think the Saito 1.80 just gives great power with any prop!

I have a AW 1.20 yak and I just bought a CRRC 26 Pro to go with mine. Has any body else used this combo?

Thanks

Hi Jim,

If you look back on this thread, I think someone went with it, but I'm not sure. As long as the engine can turn an 18x6 at 8600 RPM and over you should be fine. Weight factors in too and if the plane becomes too heavy it will fly like a brick. You might have some C.G. issues also, but I don't know the weight of the CRRC 26. The Saito 1.80 weighs in at 31 oz so as long as the 26 is only a few ouces more, you shouldn't have any problems. Take a look at QQ's report of the Evolution 26 on his Yak and watch the video. He basically said that it would hover, but would not have the unlimited performace of a Y.S. 1.40, Saito 1.80, or O.S. 1.60.

Good luck!

I finally started assembly on this plane. I'd like to say the QB aspect of these kits is fantastic as they go together well, quick. Overall, the quality of the plane, fit, finish and most of the hardware is very good. This is nothing new that hasn't already been discussed here, but I would like to gripe a bit in hopes that AW will listen - the axles are the most insanely pieces of junk I've ever seen. I realized going into that part of the construction the numerous people stripping out the threads on the axles so I was extra cautious. That didn't help as one stripped before the nut was even tight. I tried the other just to see what would happen and wound up breaking the nut plate part of the axle loose before the nut was tightened completely.

I realize this is a minor problem and an easy enough fix, but would love to see AW be a little more quality conscientious to all parts. The kit isn't cheap and thus far holds a very good reputation so why not upgrade the unusable parts.

Ok, I'm done.
