rlhilltop@ocsnet.net -> QQ 85 Flying problems? (3/29/2006 11:48:03 PM)

I have a new 85" with a DA 50 JR 8611a ect.
I am having nightmares getting it to fly correctly. I have tested with cg set from 7 3/4" to 6 3/4" from trailing edge at tips.
Here is what it does. It flys best at 6 3/4''. Normal IMAC flying at both settings is bad. It search's all over. It wont carve with the
ailerons, it trys to right itself. The elevator acts like it is not even there. Takes alot of elevator to fly turns. It will cobra great with flaps and hovers's good but take all the elevator its got. It lands bad real bad. It is better if you harrier and then land. If you do a normal approach it takes all you can do to put it into the landing pattern when you bank and reduce speed or even keep speed it wants to right itself. It does not float at all, but test good on invert and invert uplines. Wings are 0 at fuse, stab 1/2 to 1 postive. Wing tips are 1/2 to 1 down. Does it need to be more tail heavy? Fuel tank is right on the c/g. It wont waterfall at all, Knife edge is fair doesnt track good at all through knife edge loops. I fly everything so i know it is no me. I fly helis, 40%rs so on and so forth.
I have full throws and have tried diffrent rates with expo still wont track and get up on the wing. Acts like it wants to tip stall?
It does not fly light at all and it only weighs 15.7 lb? Controls surfaces are not very resposive it takes alot of throws to hover, torque roll ect.
Help please!
Robert

Hi Robert,
Balance your plane at 7 3/8" from trailing edge. Where do you have the batteries, located? Can you send me some pics of your set up. I truly can't put these together being that tail heavy and yet elevator is not effective! I have exactly same set up as you do , DA50, 8611. I have balanced mine at 7 1/4" with everything (batteries) being up front and it flies just incredible. Is your stab parallel to your wings?

Please post some pics if you can and balance your plane at 7 3/8" to 7 1/4" from trailing edge and give it try. If you could send pic. please send me pics of the how you mounted the tank, where the batteries are, from your engine and a shot of inside of the fuse where components are. Also let me know what throws are you using for low rates and high rates.

Thank you,
Reza

I removed the stab as per QQ. The fuse had a precut hole incidence of 1 degree pos.
Stab at had 1/4 degree twist. Had to resize the hole to 0. Reset the wing to o.
Talked to QQ he sent me a new stab. I installed it at 0 degree.
Flys perfect.
Robert
