Newbie to sport. I used G3 which helped me get soloed, however, their swap pages absolutely 100% suck. Their so-called "swap pages" are old at best and I tried to download their planes off there knifeedge forum which ended up being a complete goat rope.
Enough with G3.
Question: Which company is serious about wanting your business? I'm not a heavy 3 D guy, but would like a wide variety of airplanes that are easily downloadble. I do prefer the "photo field" type airfield and do not like the game look. I fly for a major airline and like the video resolution offered by G3's photofield.
Any suggestions on which program to buy next will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

I have downloaded several planes off the Knifeedge forum and they all work great! PM if you are having problems and I'll try to help. The most common thing is to make sure you save the files as filename.g3x, not filename.g3x.zip (which windows will try do do). You can directly import the finelname.g3x planes and they work fine.

I agree that the G3 swap page is lousy .. they seem to use the Knifeedge forum as the main swap site.

Carl

Enough with G3. I'll dump it on Ebay.

Mike, have you tried www.rfmodels.com ? Also, to download from the Knifeedge forum, you have to be a member. And that's easier than joining RCU and it's still free.

I had the old version of real flight. I did get the older pro fly. I love the pro fly. I want to get the new one. APF is great. It is fust about the same as the real field.. When I do several manuvers on the program and then go to the field it takes the same input to get what you want. I just get spoiled on the game with the wind turned off and That is fun all the time..

G3 is the way to go. It has better physics. I had AFP and didn't like it, so I sold it to a friend. I hope AFPD has better physics over AFP.

G3's physics aren't bad, in fact, I can't see why they are always blasted by AFPD people. Can someone show me a better screenshot than this?

AFPD for sure, best 3D physics, in fact best overall physics. Over 1100 free downloads with what seems to be more then 1 new plane a day as well. There is a reason that there are so many planes made for AFPD and you'll see when you get it.

Sure I can, how many do you want to see? Do you need to see more then this or will this do? Maybe he would like to see some of the many of videos for AFPD too which show much more then what it looks like, but how it flies.

After flying AFPD for a while, and G3 for a while, i have some comparisons.

AFPD is best in the physics, hands down, G3 flies like the plane is on a rubber band and thrown around it's traveling axis thing.

G3 has the multiplayer, has AFPD there.

However, G3 takes much more out of the video card, pano scenery and plane on G3, ~60 FPS, with settings turned to medium. AFPD with all settings the highest at 1280x1024, i get between 200 to 400 FPS depending on model complexity.

G3 has some more "gamey" features, and the editor, but it is much more difficult to create an aircraft from scratch compared to AFPD.

Actually I think the G3 screen shot looks better. I don't like the way surfaces in AFPD react to lighting. I've flown both, both require you to ramp up the physics speed to get anything realistic. After that is done, they both fly very similar.

Well, after some fun, I decided to show this for what it is. Another attempt to start a sim war. Now, I for one am going to enjoy my weekend. Jigeye, when you posted this, you obviously wanted to stir the pot. If you were really asking the question, you would have said something along the lines of:

"Which one? AFPD or Reflex??

Newbie to sport. I used G3 which helped me get soloed, but I'm not enjoying G3 any more, so I want your opinions, on Reflex and AFPD. I'm not a heavy 3 D guy, but would like a wide variety of airplanes that are easily downloadble. I do prefer the "photo field" type airfield and do not like the game look. I fly for a major airline and like the video resolution offered by G3's photofield, however, G3's not for me.

I'm sorry that I gave you any of my precious time. I love G3 and will defend it more when the question is serious. Most of what you wrote in your opening statement about G3 is simply false. For one example: on the KE forum, there are literally hundreds of downloads. Since a few weeks ago, hundreds of planes have come out for G3. They are, for the most part, excelent planes. There are scale planes as well as 3D planes.

If you really want a new sim other than G3, they are all pretty much the same, except AFPD has been in the download business for a long time and has plenty of planes for you to chose from. I have no idea as to the quality, but STLPilot assures me that they are all excellent and I'm completely sure that if AFPD doesn't make you happy, then you need to design your own sim as none of them will be satisfactory.

I hope this helps. Please don't try to start a sim war as I'm sure that's what most of the mods here on RCU don't want.

Sincerely,
50%plane
