I'm interested in trying out a small electric heli like a hornet or a picco but I don't want to get a new radio is it possible to use a radio that has been used for soley airplanes and put a picco or hornet on it and fly. All my radio's are JR and I was planing on buying the pico kit from hobby lobby and a GWS micro reciever package with 2 servos (do you need special servos for heli's or are they all the same) from them also. How many servos does that little electric pico take? I'm planning on starting and learning on the flight sim. and then graduating up any help would be greatly appreciated

Status: offline 		I run my piccolo with a standard 4 channel TX two naro servos
most people don't recomend a pic as a first heli couse the are harder to fly and twitchy
I learned on one and highly recomend it a larger heli breaks when you crash the pic just falls
even if you have a major crash and destroy everything (never heard of it happening)
you could replace the entire heli for less than a crash kit for a bigger bird
I say go for it
also if you go with seperates (two esc's and a heading hold gyro)you will be much happier than with the piccoboard
check out anks page for a great HH gyro

gws ic50 and ic100 will work well for the motors
and YES you can fly with seperates and an airplane TX

Status: offline 		So Cyclops, you recomend 2 Gws ic50's or ic100's for speed control

and a Heading Hold Gyro, instead of a picoboard.

I thought the picco board was the RX for the Picco

Also I use a xp 652 could I program this heli in the memory and also have planes on it as well. Would I still be able to fly both with the same radio.

and yes you can use the 652 for both
Its a much better tx than mine :

Status: offline 		Many people say that a picco is incredibly ustable. Does that heading hold Gyro solve this problem and make it easier to fly.

Status: offline 		if you take the time to get it balanced perfect and trimed pretty close its quite stable
even without the HH gyro mine flew very well
with it it flys great
