Status: offline 		how well does the slow stick perform for beginners? is it ok? how durable is it? i know theres not much plane there, so how well does it handle wind?

Status: offline 		I got a Slow Stick to fly in the vacant lot next door.

I've crashed it and "patched" it up a few times.

It flys slow but without ailerons, I think it turns "funny" - to me anyway.

Lots of fun though and you can fly them anywhere.. until the batteries run down....

Status: offline 		go for the ultra stick. the lack of ailerons will be a disadvantage. Of course an acual trainer is the best way to go.

I'll offer my opinion on the SS as that is what I learned on.

For me, it was an excellent platform for me to learn on by myself. I started off with a cheap flight simulator and spent the winter learning to fly that fairly proficiently before I set off on a very calm windless spring morning which turned out to be a successful solo and maiden.

Durability? You'll have to do some modifications for a beginner, but be prepared to replace a prop and possibly a prop shaft when you nose it in.

It cruises at around 7 mph, so you don't want to fly it in too much wind. The undercambered wing (a large 500 square inches) with such a light plane makes for interesting flying in even light gusty conditions. The wind pushes it around like the proverbial 99 pound weakling.

Even after I learned to fly the SS, I never flew if there was much wind. You weren't flying as much as constantly correcting for the effects of wind.

It was a blast to fly on calm days, floating around the field a foot or so above the ground. I'm rebuilding the tail on mine and hope to be flying it again soon.

Status: offline 		Slow sticks are very popular, a staple. The advice you have been given about them is right on the money.

Therefore, I will suggest the GWS E-Starter. 4-channel, decent looking, slow flyer. Have flown it with NMHd and LiPo. Two-cell 1500 LiPo is excellent. Will needd compatible ESC and Charger.

Best to get to a club or a friend and get Buddy-Boxed for a while.
