Good to know it worked for you! Mine didn't fair so well. I believe the rudder control on the radio is broken, the servo was going wildly erratic, I confirmed by plugging in the USB connector to FMS and during the calibration setup it was doing the exact same thing.

Mine didnt come with a spinner but I got generic one to fit. Also covered the rest of the plane in clear tape. The wing is a lot stiffer just from the tape it also keeps the body from getting nicked up. I also added a brace to the front wheel. Great flying plane so far.

Well I still have had no effort to fix the problem with mine from the guy I bought mine from. So to let you all know... do not buy anything from http://rcworld.us RC World International . He also sells stuff on eBay. Total scammer -- he has no phone number to call and doesn't reply to emails. STAY AWAY!!!

Hey netmasta10bt, did you ever get your radio issue resolved? I just received my Focus from a different E-bay seller a couple days ago. I have it all assembled, but haven't flown it yet. It has been ridiculously cold, and too much wind. I've been out of the hobby for 20+ years. Not sure if this is the best choice for "trainer", but I couldn't pass up the price and I can't believe what they are doing with electrics these days! Anyhow, I plan on purchasing a different radio very soon, and if/when I do, I could probably work out a good deal with you if you're interested in my Dynam radio. . . so far, it seems to be working just fine. One thing I noticed on my plane is that the ailerons aren't quite neutral when you have the aileron trim on the transmitter centered. It takes over 50% trim to get them centered, and I don't see any quick and easy adjustment of the factory setup. I tried removing the servo arm and moving it one spline, but that was too much. The other issue I noticed is that my nosewheel is cranked a bit to the left, when the rudder is centered. I carefully removed the cowl and tried to adjust the control horn on the nosewheel, but it doesn't seem to like staying adjusted after re-tightening the tiny screw (maybe it has a flat spot filed onto the landing gear wire?). I don't want to have to feed a bunch of right rudder into it to keep it going straight down the runway on takeoff! After reading another forum thread on this plane, it sounds like I'll be re-working that nosewheel setup after the first few hard landings anyways.

No I gave up with the guy from RCWorld.us . I bought a JR 8103 and a GWS Naro receiver. Everything is working fine now.

Sounds like you might have to make some slight bends in the control rods to center everything up.

New here, just thought I would say hi. I also just bought this plane RTF from ebay seller RC-Techtoys for $89 plus shipping. The transmitter is from NE-KO. It's been quite a while since I've done any flying, but I used to have a glider and a Nitro trainer. The videos of this plane make it look like a very fun plane to fly as a beginner. I also purchased Hanger 9's simulator to quicken my pursuit of some trick 3D flying. My goal is to move up to a 33% in a couple years. I look forward to learning from all of you.

I tried to click on your site but it just pops up with a page that says "listings for hobby shops related to awlhobbies" well anyway I was looking to see where I could find replacement parts for the focus 400.

I now have replacement parts for it, I have not had a chance to put them up on the web page yet though.

$129 dollars.
Lipo and Brushless RTF.

Sounds too good to be true.

This is an stale old thread. Anyone have any recent feedback on this plane?

I need a new battery.

how this pplane handle at slow speed ? I can kill the motor and just glide it down for landing? give me a few tips on how fly this baby !!!

here is where i fly my SC is a little small but you are the judge .. and tell me if is a good field for the focus?

I can't get onto youtube, so I can't see your video. It's been a while since I've flown my Focus, but it does handle great at slow speed. Probably a little more to handle than your SC, but definitely a nice, forgiving plane to fly. . . . otherwise someone like me wouldn't stand a chance! As for killing the throttle and gliding in for a landing - yes, you could do that. It's no sailplane, but it glides halfway decent. You'll just want to maintain enough airspeed so that it will respond to control inputs (such as flaring it with the elevator for a soft landing).

Has anyone flown a Fucus off a grass field ?
Looks to me like that nose wheel could be a problem.
I've watched videos of the Focus taking off and landing, but that was on a nice smooth paved strip. I also noticed on one video, that two of the demo planes landed, (and taxied), tail down.

Due to the prevailing breeze here where I fly, I have to use grass. Hence the big wheels on the SC.

Not having seen it, it may be not be all that hard to convert it to a tail dragger with a steerable tail wheel. Has anyone done that yet.

How would the balance of the aircraft have to be changed so that it would assume the tail down attitude on landing role ? An interesting aeronautical question.

Any and all ideas are welcome.

Dave

Hey DaxFx, did you order a new battery yet? You didn't leave your battery plugged in to your speed controller for a long period, did you? They say not to do that, and of course, I went and did it once for a few days. The battery was completely charged when I plugged it in, and when I came back and turned the switch ON to fly a few days later, it was completely dead. . . . well, at least I'm pretty sure it was (don't know how to test it), because it took a LONG time to recharge it with the cheesy little charger that came with the plane!

It's been a few months since I've flown mine, but I'm going to have to get it out again soon. It's been cold and very windy here in Michigan lately. By the way, I learned to fly it with the radio it came with, but after a while, I picked up a Hitec Eclipse and found it a little easier to fly with some dual rates programmed into the aileron and elevator channels.

yes!! at least I was not the only dumb that let the battery plugged..... WOW man that was the same that happend to me! but was connected like 1 week. I just forgot to unpluged. now I need a new TX too I was using mine with SIM all the time and few days back a drop a glass of watter in tx and now does not work

where is the one that have the tx and dont want it.... I need it please.. I try 4 ch tx from my walkera but plane came krazy I think is by the PPC PCM setting. also I try another 3 ch TX but just dont do nothing with the other . I found on ebay the battery for 30 dollars and the tx for 40 with reciver and servos. but for spend 80 dellars I think I can buy a second Focuss and keep the first one for spare.... I love this focus and I have read some good stuff that I can not keep waiting for fly mine. but I just cant now.

Hey, don't sweat it - your English is a lot better than my Spanish!! I have a transmitter I'm not using, but not sure what it would cost to ship to Puerto Rico. I really think you'd be far better off picking up a good, used computer radio that has some handy features such as dual rates. I looked on E-bay and there is a Hitec Optic 6 transmitter on there right now, and it comes with the Spectra module. This allows you to switch the transmitter to whatever frequency your Focus' receiver is on. My Hitec Eclipse came with the Spectra module too, and it works great. The dual rates, if you're not familiar with them, will give you the ability to flip a toggle switch and instantly turn down the amount of "throw" in your controls (such as your ailerons, elevator, or rudder). Makes the plane more docile and forgiving while you're learning to fly it. By the way, what I meant by flaring it during landing is giving some "up" elevator right before you touch down so as to raise the nose/drop the tail for a smooth landing. Of course, the fields I usually fly on have tall weeds or hay, so my plane usually flips upside down right after the "landing" (ha!) anyways. . . .

you can use flatrate box priority that cost like 7 dollars or a small box will cost 4 or 5 dollar .. let me know if we can deal and how much you want and I can send you the money. or i can buy the shipping label online and send it to you via e-mail a and you just print it out and put in box with tape or paper glue. and I can send you some money for the tx. let me know.....

yes I know what is dual rate .. my slo-v , swift, phantom came with dual rate switch .. but for tell the truth i never use low rates..
