Your gonna love it. There is probably better high end chargers out there but I truly love mine and tickled with the performance so far. Not hard to set up and works well. The only real fault is only being able to charge one pack at a time but that's no real big deal. I charged my plane and radio at the field Sunday in about 30 minutes for both and was ready to fly. Hope you like it!

It'll probably be delayed on account of the Christmas rush I guess. I've never ordered from Dymond-RC so I don't have any first hand knowledge on their shipping methods. I sympathize with you though, I hate having to wait on a new toy sometimes. Maybe it'll show up soon! Best of luck...

Guys, i have a Question on the ST. I just received mine and am a little confused about something... Can anyone offer a little clarification???

When setting up the charger I am a not quite sure that I understand the Charge Rate field on the set up menu.
The instructions on page 5 say "select the battery manufacturers recommendation for the battery you plan to charge. (usually about 2 times the capacity for a NICAD and 1 time the capacity for a NIMH). Would a C=2.0 mean 2 times the capacity and a C=4.0 mean 4 times the capacity?

For example, If I am using a 1000 mAh NiCD battery that says to charge at 100 mA for 15 hrs, and quick charge for 1.5A for 1 hour, does that mean that if I select C=2.0 I am charging at 200 mAh's????

Would the setting I use look like this: (this is the charger screen)
M1 NiCD
C=2.0 D=2.0 1200

Also, If I wanted to set it up to Quick Charge it for the 1.5A for 1 hour, how would I set that up???

No the rate you select is the actual amperage that will be delivered during the charge. The ST has no way to tell what the "C" value of the attached pack is. It is up to you to do the C/10, C and 2C calculations.

0.1=100 MA

1.5= 1.5 amps or 1500 MA

The ST is a peak detect charger. You can't set a time limit for charging. All you can set is the current.

The one extra setting is the max charge that will be put in. As the charge cycle runs, the ST keeps track of the accumulated MAH. You can see this on the screen as the charge progresses. It is a simple calculation of current multiplied by the time of charge.

If you have a 1000 mah battery, a good number to set would be 1200. This way, if the charger does not peak detect for some reason, it will shut down when it has given the pack 1200 MAH
A "rule" of thumb is to set it to 10-20% higher than the pack capacity.

Now discharge is another animal. Most manufacturers rate the capacity of their cells at a 5 hour rate (C/5). The downside to this is that it will take 5 hours to discharge the pack. If you go significantly above this (discharge a 1000ma pack at '2C' 2 amps) the apparent capacity will decrease. If you plan to keep records of your pack capacity over time, just be sure to stick with the same discharge rate every time.

Your screen should look like this:
M1 NiCD
C=1.5 D=0.2 1200

1) I know rledbet indicated that the instructions that came with his 1000mah pack said to fast charge 1.5amps and that would equate to:

M1 NiCD
C=1.5 D=0.2 1200

The instructions that came with my Super Turbo said that it is safe to fast charge NICADs at 2C and NIMHs at 1C. Would the following be an OK setup for that same 1000mah NICAD?

M1 NiCD
C=2.0 D=0.2 1200

These are some of the fast charge setups I currently use for my RX and TX packs: (I normall use C/1 for discharge but show .200 below)

600mah TX & RX NICAD
M1 NiCD
C=1.2 D=0.2 0700

700mah TX & RX NICAD
M1 NiCD
C=1.4 D=0.2 0850

250mah RX NICAD
M1 NiCD
C=0.5 D=0.2 0300

840mah RX NIMH
M1 NiCD
C=0.8 D=0.2 0900

1000mah RX NICAD
M1 NiCD
C=2.0 D=0.2 1200

1200mah RX NICAD
M1 NiCD
C=2.4 D=0.2 1400

1300mah RX NICAD (6 volts)
M1 NiCD
C=2.6 D=0.2 1550

1500mah RX NIMH
M1 NiCD
C=1.5 D=0.2 1650

2. I just picked up some 2100mah & 3500 4.8 & 6.0 RX packs. They have not yet been initially charged. What is the recommended initial charge setup. I certainly can't use the charger that came with the radio systems (15 hours for 700mah packs using 50mah charge rate) I would expect to use the Super Turbo charger connected to a 10amp Radio Shack 12v power supply.

maybe???:

2100mah NIMH
M1 NIMH
C=0.3 D=0.2 2300

3500mah NIMH
M1 NIMH
C=0.4 D=0.2 3850

Jim, Dave Thacker at Radical R/C says to never fast charge a new battery. ALWAYS charge at a C/10 rate the first time.

Also, thanks for the imout above on your turbos settings. Comparing against what I have learned over the last few days, I am right on track with what you are doing. I am getting to really like that charger!

Thanks,

Rich

i didnt know that you had to buy a seperate connector for the charger, i think they should include it as an option with the charger... i had to spend 8$ on the connector and 7$ for shipping for a little connector! i dont see why they dont sell the connector with it

If you buy it from RC-accessory.com they give you a set of the custom charge leads - with banana plugs on one end and TX or Rx type plugs on the other end. It's normally shipped with a short set of leads that just go from the bananas to aligator clips.

THey guy who runs that site posts here on RCU, Evan I think.

Anyway, my first one was stolen after about 6 months use - and I bought another one - so yes, I'm quite happy with it.

The Super Turbo doesn't come with the charge cords you need. I think it shoud as well.

I ran a promotion several times that with the purchase of a Super Turbo, you get the Futaba or JR/Hitec charge cord set at no charge. These sell for $8.00 a set. I haven't done that promo in a few months, so lets bring it back!!!

Any Super Turbo orders from Jan 1 through Feb 28, 2003 will get a free set of charge cords, Futaba or JR/Hitec.

I will update the www.rcaccessory web site to reflect the new promotion. Check under INTERNET SPECIALS.

Thanks guys!!
