I'm trying to fit a A123 battery and go brushless...

Anyone got that to fit?

will it fit either the 7cell chassis or the graphite one?

A123 will not fir the DI... Not unless you get the new 2200 car case packs... And the DI will withstand 30mph fine if you have the slipper and the right gearing. I ran mine MM5700 3s for a while and it ripped... more like 70 over 30...

I have driven my DI at 2 different tracks. One is pretty smooth so its not much to compare. But one is an MT/ 1/8 track which throws it around pretty badly... As long as your suspension has pretty quick rebound and isn't too stiff then you should be able to do OK. Just make sure you get decent lines... I can easily hit the big triple and all the big doubles at the rough track though.

frugalman -> RE: Official Dark Impact Thread (8/19/2008 2:46:57 AM)

what is a slipper?

streetracer745 -> RE: Official Dark Impact Thread (8/19/2008 2:57:26 AM)

The slipper clutch. It makes it so not all the power from the motor goes straight to the gears at once. Thatway you dont rip the gears up. a necesity for BL or for a lot of jumping IMO

price of a slipper clutch is around $40-$60 ?

streetracer745 -> RE: Official Dark Impact Thread (8/19/2008 3:30:33 AM)

I thought it was around $25-$30. Its $28 on ebay. I'm not sure where else to buy it.

kool,thanx!

i think i need to get another evader first,so both my kids have very similar trucks (sibling rivalry/jealousy thing[8|]) to run,but i'm very interested in the DI.i've never actually built a kit (last time i was in the hobby, the lhs did all my mechanicals[sm=red_smile.gif]),and i've read/heard tamiya is excellent for "first timers".mine would be bashed most of the time, but i'll want enuff upgrades to keep it competative on the track if i can help em get enuff interest to run a class for it.their track runs a lot of 1/8 scale too (because that's what they push[;)]),but they keep it reasonably groomed from what i remember.i think they're still waitting on some more dirt to rebuild it tho[&o].this year,i'll be getting a spot on our property cleared/ready,next spring,i hope to be building a small track here (it'll be tight and "jump-y") so's we can race at home too.

yea,i think the DI would be a great 1st build and 4WD for me,then maybe a durga,then maybe...[8|]

tom_chang79 -> RE: Official Dark Impact Thread (8/19/2008 8:59:42 PM)

Well, I've actually ran Academy SB Pro LE, JConcept BJ4WE, and now I primarily run the AE B44...

What really intrigued me about the DF-03 chassis is its layout. It's laid out like a 2WD buggy in 4WD form. 4WDs have always suffered from having to stick the battery pack to the side, or having to resort to a saddle configuration.

The DF-03 chassis completely goes around this limitation, with the battery right down the center... I wish Tamiya was more serious about this car, more serious then just releasing an "MS" kit. I guess their flagship 4WD is the TRF501x, and the DF-03 has to be in its place or they will compete against itself in the same class...

Oh well, a fully hopped up DF-03 costs slightly more then a TRF501x, but it beats having to go belt and saddle (my B44 is a saddle, so don't need any more saddle-based 4wds...)

If they incorporated some racing features into the DF-03, it would probably be a killer. I've read from variouis DF-03 owners that the car didn't hook up, but I think with a little suspension and the right tire, this thing can kick some serious... you know what...

offroadjunkie -> RE: Official Dark Impact Thread (8/19/2008 9:08:19 PM)

yep,the layout is what made me first take notice too.

i noticed in one of the mags recently, tamiya has an ad that shows the DI,durga and 501 side by side by side, and says something like "tamiya has all 3 covered:beginner, intermediate, and advanced" (paraphrased,i don't have it in front of me)...i kinda like that ad =)

well, gotta get ready for work, see ya.

tom_chang79 -> RE: Official Dark Impact Thread (8/19/2008 9:16:22 PM)

Well, if you do plan on buying a DF-03, look into the DF-03MS kit, it comes with all the bells and whistles that should've came with the car in the first place...

man that looks killer!!!what's the $ at tower?(i won't get the reply till next logon tho,i'm gone)
thanx-steve

streetracer745 -> RE: Official Dark Impact Thread (8/19/2008 10:30:24 PM)

With most of the tamiya hop ups and the 3racing graphite conversion, this buggy is truely race worthy IMO.

ffletchs -> RE: Official Dark Impact Thread (8/20/2008 1:16:59 AM)

DF03MS looks cool!

will that center chassis plate fit the standard DF03? looks to me like that might fit the A123 batteries

streetracer745 -> RE: Official Dark Impact Thread (8/20/2008 1:23:33 AM)

Your talking about the graphite one frugalman put up? It might... IDK anyone who has run it...

frugalman -> RE: Official Dark Impact Thread (8/20/2008 6:31:21 PM)

nice white wheels
didn't know they had those

J.D.T -> RE: Official Dark Impact Thread (8/21/2008 10:20:27 PM)

my buddy got some five star stuff today for the df 03 and its all very nice, years back we had some ta 04 parts from them that were much rougher, they seem to have come quite a ways, the aluminum knuckles were near sqaure qaulity which simply wasn't true in the past, he got everything champ had under df 03, hinge brace, front tower, rear tower, prop shaft, steering arm, front knuckles and rear hubs, and hexes I think thats all lol, he jumped on that roca sale($112-114 df 03s)so he can have all three versions nib but now he has got all these extra option parts hes going to have to pick one and build a queen as he allready has a built with sqaure parts df 03 basher.

streetracer745 -> RE: Official Dark Impact Thread (8/21/2008 10:40:07 PM)

JDT - where can you get five star stuff? Never heard of it... We are gonna need to see some pics of this thing once its built!

J.D.T -> RE: Official Dark Impact Thread (8/22/2008 2:57:56 PM)

Jasons store on ebay has some but we mainly get our exotic parts from champ rc in japan as its alot cheaper, the shipping is a little high but the prices are much better than any us supplier, if you need any spairs order them at the same time as they are tamiya -17 to 19% which is usually about half price compaired to tower or tamiya usa. $175 or so on the df03ms also, but kits are usually about the same by the time you ship them but tower had the dt02ms so jacked up it was one you would have benefited from shipping around the globe. These parts are more expensive than the gpm and 3racing stuff we are all used to but much nicer fit and finish coming from japan as opposed to china.

http://www.rc-champ.co.jp/Champ_International/International_index.htm

do a df 03 search under toys and hobbies on ebay, anything tobee craft racing, square, five stars, kawada and xenon(nice graphite conversion kit) makes for the df 03 champ can get

pao22 -> RE: Official Dark Impact Thread (8/22/2008 8:58:36 PM)

is df03 worth buying?

streetracer745 -> RE: Official Dark Impact Thread (8/22/2008 10:44:05 PM)

Hey theres a question I havent seen before... What do you plan on running the truck/buggy for and where?

derek2005 -> RE: Official Dark Impact Thread (8/23/2008 3:18:47 AM)

The Df-03 is a great car to race with if you have hopped up the shocks and you need a slipper. Most people also get different tires, but depending on the dirt, the stock tires are surprisingly good. They are hard however and softer tires with better foams help soak up larger jumps. When I first brought this car to the track, everyone with their Losi's and Kyosho's flocked around me to see what this car was. There were amazed at the balance the car has. They helped me refine the suspension and then the car was super competitive. It's downfalls are lack of air flow to the electronics, and you do need a few hop-ups to be competitive at most tracks. I love racing my Dark Impact.

mog ruith -> RE: Official Dark Impact Thread (8/23/2008 4:08:19 AM)

i once intend to get me a df03 cos its shaft driven but went with a db01 instead, basically because alot of people says that the plastic quality of the df03 is not that great
is this true guys?
