*Agree* i think i was a bit older then they are when i got my subura brat which i dont have anymore but the good times are coming back i even manged to get my dad into rc now,he has a baja champ and my mate has a manta ray so lots of fun coming.
...You will see what i mean about the speed jiggles if you get the mamba in the DI...The dampers just help the car track better...Not really a servo or servo saver issue...Anyway...
...Have to try and get a run in before I take my son to the pool...
Hey Bit I'm also thinking of using velcro to mount the body. Do the shape of the chassis and that of the body fit perfectly?
Also, about the velcro, do you use "loop" on the chassis and "hook" on the body or the opposite? Or does it matter?

Hello Fellow Tamiya Dark Impact Enthusiasts,
I've been lurking for a while reading up on any info regarding the Tamiya Dark Impact. Evaluating it based on your posts (here and in other forums).
I've been running Duratrax Evader Pro BX and Pro STs in our local club races and I had been looking for an affordable 4WD buggy that I could race.
Well, needless to say, I've gotten myself a Tamiya Dark Impact about 2 months ago and had raced my DI twice already and had placed 4th on both occasions againsts BJ4WEs, XXX4s, and MR4BXs.
When I got my DI, I also got the following hop-ups with it:
1. Tamiya DF03 Slipper 2. Tamiya DF03 Shocks 3. Tamiya DF02 Universals (front and rear) 4. Tamiya DF03 One-Way 5. Tamiya DF03 Heatsink 6. Tamiya Aluminum Wheel Adapters 7. Yeah Racing Turnbuckles 8. Five Stars Front CF Brace 9. Five Stars Damper Ball
I'm running Novak GTB and 7.5R on it. 82T Spur and 23T Pinion.
I'm using a Futaba S9550 servo and installed a Tamiya Hi-Torque Servo Saver. It was the first time for me to use a digital high speed servo (currently using Futaba S3050s on my Evaders) and wow, the S9550 feel totally different than the S3050s. I like it a lot.
I actually intially got an S3050 for my DI but the S9550 suited it better because it and the servo saver sits lower on the chassis.
A few other mods I installed are the AE foam dust covers and o-rings on the propeller joints and rear suspension shaft (until someone makes suitable braces for the rear).
The first time I ran my DI on the track, I was impressed! I like how the buggy runs and handles! After racing it twice, I feel it is quite competitive.
The stock tires work quite well and they're good all-around tires on varying off-road track conditions (loose, hard-packed, slightly muddy).
Contrary to my apprehension that it can't steer into corners due to the limited steering travel, I was wrong!
Of course, the one-way I installed helps. And, I think the design of the rear diff outdrives being different from the front outdrives (rear has plastic thingy that pushes the diff plate) serves the purpose of helping the buggy steer because the rear diff is slightly looser than the front.
I haven't broken anything so far even when I had mistakes during jumps and had minor collisions.
You have to watch out for loosening screws, though!
I had lost the screw and flanged tube on one of the front knuckles. I remedied it temporarily with a plastic spacer from the GTB fan and screw while I am waiting for the replacement part.
The screws that mount the rear transmission onto the chassis (under chassis and between the rear body posts) also loosens.
