i'm jeremy's friend that was described as spending "a few weeks painting" the tiger meet hornet, he actually meant to say "a few weeks MASKING, AND A FEW MONTHS PAINTING"!!! ARF's - modelling or pretending?

One of my customers has just had a reply from JL. They say it may be offered, along with other custom schemes, in the future.

If I had nothing else to do all day then I would build from kits. As it is, sometimes you just have to take the shortest route 'cos of other committments.
Many would say that builing from kits is just pretending and that proper modelling starts with a plan, sharp knife and a big pile of balsa.

If you paint your own model though (like this F18 in question), I think that it demonstrates a high degree of artistic skill and should be given just merits - aftyer all, how many artists make their own canvas?

There is no way the "out of the box" scheme will look as good or even exactly like a professional paint job by a proffesional modler unless you guys are worried..

Also the stupid yellow cubs that were previously mentioned used to take a guy in his basement MONTHS of cutting sticks from a sig or balsa usa kit to have a cub.. I wonder how he feels..

If a modler does not have the time or the skill to produce a FINE paint job or build an airplane from sticks it should not matter to the most of us.. As far as i know in competiton the rules say you MUST build cover and or paint your own offering.. SO, Whats the problem? Russ

Quite frankly, I think some may have missed my point. I am in no way slamming ARFs in any way, shape or form. ARF's are an invaluable asset to the RC community in general.
What I am slamming is any F-18 a-d that isn't the big Yellow Twin...ruler of the skies.
Those who know me know that I have a vested interest in the YA twin re: scale aftermarket upgrades, so they also know that this is my very biased, outspoken, sarcastic, all-in-good-humor opinion. Hence my "Go Big or Go Home" reference earlier.

The point I was making is this. I didn't have my panties wadded up because someone copied "Jorge's special scheme"...(okay, for a second I did) Nor was I concerned that it might be some inferior rendition of the scheme. Any guy worth his salt with an airbrush (you know who you are) and the time to do it, could replicate that scheme pretty tightly. I've become accustomed to that scheme being associated with one very special model aircraft. So seeing it reduced to this model just didn't sit right at first...especially when (IN MY OPINION) the particular model has questionable and ethical roots and origins.

But digressing, I certainly have nothing against ARF's...have you seen the Yellow Twin F/A-18c ARF? WOW!!!

hey guys, could someone give me some advice on how to do riveting on a f18c, I have tried the old methods but someone may have an alternative.
I have purchased the jetlegend f18c kit and am hoping to do this in full detail, anything else worth while would be appreciated.

cheers
Todd
