Hello all,

First post in this forum so please be kind. I fly mostly sport, fun fly, and dabble in classic pattern. I have built only a handful of scale models in the past 30 years of aeromodeling.

Here's the question: A recent Aero-news.net article stated that they are bringing back (into production) the Windecker Eagle. A few google searches reveals that this was the first composite aircraft certified by the FAA, and holder of several speed records for general aviation. It was viewed as competition for the venerable Beech Bonanza. Also revealed is that there was a Flying Models construction article in Feb. 1976 (I believe). From the few pictures I have seen, the aircraft is beautiful and would make a great scale project.

Does anyone have access to downloadable plans? I can import DXF and other CAD formats and go from there.

Anyone have the construction article?

I would be willing to turn this into a construction thread if there is interest.

Thanks in advance.

Flying Models lists a plan on page 38 of their offerings. The number is CF287 for a 69" span model that was in the Feb 1973 magazine.

Did you ever find/get your Windecker Eagle plans and article?  I am now looking at doing the same thing.  The Windecker Eagle is a very nice looking plane.

Hello Danny.

Where did you get the plans?  Did yours come from Carstens Flying Models or was someone else selling them?  I think the Windecker Eagle is a very nice looking plane but then I tend to prefer the later low wing general aviation planes like the Eagle.

If you built it and have pictures I am sure we would be interesting in having you post them (I know I would).

Thank you.

Hello Danny.

I was just looking at the Carstens web page online catalog and no longer see the Windecker CF287 plan listed and it does not show up in a search.  Do you happen to know of another source for this plan?

Thank you.

I would call Carstens, I think the web only shows the most popular not the whole catalog.

I sent them an email but have not heard back yet.  I did find the Windecker still in the PDF catalog they have online but the online order form does not give any provision for adding items that you know exist.  So I will see how they respond.

Thank you.

Carstens Flying Models did reply to my email.  The Windexcker Eagle plans are still available and they added them to the items in the online list.  I am not sure why they do not have their entire catalog available for online ordering but the older plans do not seem to appear in the list unless it is a popular plan.

At any rate, Flying Models does still offer the CF287 Windecker Eagle plan in case anyone is interested.

Flying Models does seem to give good service.  At least they have the 2 times I have bought plans from them recently. I did receive the Windecker Eagle plans from them today.  I ordered them on Friday and they arrived today in a roll tube (except they are not round any more).  When I unrolled them I was a bit upset as the Windecker fuselage plan was very blotchy and black in spots but the next sheet was a good copy of it so they had appearently had the first page bleed badly but included it at no extra cost.  The wing and tail sheets were ok though so no extra there.

When I called them late last Friday the gal told me that the reason they do not list all their plans is because some are not very popular and others like the L19 plan from the early 1960's are not available because the mylar deteriorated so they can not make a copy.  They apparently have not gone digital yet.
