Status: offline 		Has anyone here managed to fit a Saito 56 in a Rascal? I have one that's been sitting in a box for 7 or 8 years that I would like to put in this plane. Thanks.

Status: offline 		The .56 is a great match, both in size and power. That's what I have in mine, great performance. A .72 will also fit, and according to tlw, so will the .82. I'll bet his will go out of sight straight up, because my .56 will take it a pretty good way before it loses its oomph.

BTW, a .65 will NOT fit, engine case is too wide at the mount rails, and neither will the older .80 fit.

Status: offline 		Yeah, TLW427 said he put an .82 in it and I thought for a minute he might have thought I was building (putting together) the 110. I could hardly believe he put an .82 in it. Did you you have to do a lot of cowl cutting to make it fit........did you mount it inverted? Do you have an onboard glow driver on your engine?

Status: offline 		I didn't cut my cowl at all, except to make a hole for the needle adjuster to stick out on one side, and a small hole on the other so I could adjust the idle, and i did have to make a relief cutout for the exhaust header.

It's a snug fit, and I had to put my throttle linkage in after the engine is mounted. I used the supplied rod and bent the end in a half loop with a clevis on the end, so the clevis attaches from the front of the throttle arm to give it enough clearance.

I don't know if others with Rascal 40's have had this problem, but I'm betting that anyone with high time on theirs does--- the small aluminum brackets that you mount the engine to, and then screw to the wood rails, eventually break from vibration at one or another screw hole. I made a set from the same thickness of steel, and have had no further problems. There's not enough weight involved with them to change the c/g much, that you can't adjust by moving the battery or Rx.

Yes. mine is inverted, and no, it doesn't have on-board glow, doesn't need it, runs great. The glow plug IS kind of aggravating to get to, though, you might consider a remote plug for convenience.

Status: offline 		will send you a pic of the 82 in there as soon as I find my son to upload it. It was so tight I had to Z-bend the throttle push rod and install it already hooked to the carb. Bottom blind nuts did not hold and I did have to cut a vent door into the upper clowling in order to reach everything. That also help in cooling I think.

Performance wise the 82 I have is real close to my YS63. I have not had it over one half stick in level flight, vertical is really out of sight in just a few seconds. It lands like a trainer, when I bought the 82 I had thoughts of seeing which was more powerful for my Funtana, then the best engine would go into the Funtana long term. The simple truth, the 82 is just too fun to take out of the Rascal.
