Hi Guys, I just did the maiden of my new Skymaster F-18F this past weekend. The jet is powered by an Artes Super Eagle. The jet flew incredible and very stable, at landing it came down very smooth and slow, it was stoped in about 40 meters. The power of the Eagle was incredible, at take off I had too much up elevator and the jet went in a 80 degree climb, the eagle kept it going up with no problems. The color scheme looks incredible in the air and very easy to see.[:D]

Another F-18F Super Hornet will be taking to the blue skies in another week or so, but in the US [;)] Cant wait to see mine goooo!! My Super Hornet is getting painted at the end of this week (same scheme as BVM's factory F-18F)She has a Merlin 160 for power and has one of the highly detailed dual cockpits.We plan to fly mine clean for a few flights then add the wing tanks,fuse missles,side winders & a pair of GBU's thereafter![:D]

Thanks Duke and Steve, I don't know much about the Super Hornet Expert, but we do what we can...[:)]
I guess the gear doors where the most painfull part, but the guys that build the jet, I suck in building, did an incredible job.

Congrats Mdurand... it´s a beautiful plane. And I have a question: did you used flaps on that takeoff?

Thanks Enrique, and yes I used flaps at takeoff. This bird likes to detach from the floor instead on smoothly rotating. Specially in short runways wher you have to push it up. For this I made a simple mod to the foward gear so when I have the jet standing on the ground it has a bit of a positive angle, this makes takeoffs much more smooth.

That´s exactly why I asked you about it... I am a little worried because I will soon maiden a F-18 and the distance from the main gear to the cg will make rotation a difficult task in my way of
view things, so I am planning to fly out it from ground "flat" with the assistance of some flap deflection.

Yes flaps will help you out in getting a smooth takeoff, if you have a long runway let it get some speed and it will rotate very nicelly.

Is your new F-18 a Skymaster ARF?

Yes, is a F-18 Blue Angel from Skymaster, but it is not mine... again this was the result from a pic attached to a friend´s email. I should stop sending those! LOL

i'm just about finished an sm f18c and wondering do all these hornets fly with just the brass bushings for elevator? call me whatever but looking at that setup makes me cringe, and thinking about it makes me shudder. jets are suposed to be the cream of the crop, so i would say to anyone, don't just accept it, improve it. no point whingeing about who designed it, if you see a better way, take the knife to it.

The Skymaster system works just fine, I have flown a lot my both hornets and never a problem. All my costumers do as well and also never a problem. Yor system looks very nice, just make sure you have the same strengh in that area after all the cutting and sanding.

hi guys,

just some info on the full size hornets. i worked on the full size hornets for 13 years!

the take off settings have both rudders canted inboard (about 15 deg). this gives drag above the c of g and rotates the aircraft when it gets to takeoff velocity. as soon as the aircraft senses weight off wheels the rudders return to the normal position. quite ingenious.

Hello guys I'm putting the finishing touches on my Skymaster f-18F super hornet I have a couple of questions before the maiden flight can someone verify the CG, Elevator, Ailerons, and Flap throws thanks.

Use factory setting and you will be ok. For CG I used 140mm from the leading edge and the jets flys very stable in that point.

Michel. How does the F18F balance. Did you have to add lead in the nose?
I will be fitting 2 X 5 cell RX batteries & the cockpit kit. I just want to know so I can keep as much equipment forward if necessary. I am fitting the Simjet Nexus so that should make it move. At the moment I am fitting the tailpipe which is slightly to narrow at the rear.
The F18 sits nose below the level. How much did you raise the nose by?

I am happy to hear your madien went good I can't wait to get mine.I order mine through Todd from dream works and they discover the canopy was damaged during shipping so he told me he is trying to get me another canopy and it has been over a month and still have not got my jet yet I am starting to get up set because I am wanting to get this jet in the air and enjoyed its beauty it is also in the diamond back color schem.

Hi Jim, this is a bit older post as the F-18 had been flying for about 3 months know... I did had to add some lead to the nose, even though I had my batteries just in front of the nose servo.
About the nose below level, it will takeoff this way, no problem. If you want get the nose higher by using some spacers in the struts or retracts, anything more than a 0 degre angle will help. As a tip, use more flap than recomended for takeoff, this will help on rotations. Also let the hornet run as much as you can.

Hi Robert, I am sorry for your problem, I am sure Todd is doing his best, as I know he takes really good care of his customers. I can't help much as I see the Latin American markets, but I am sure that the wait will be forgotten after you see your Bug on it's retracts and ready to fly...[:D]
