Which retracts did you end up using? I haven't ordered mine yet but need to get them on thier way. Been so busy I haven't had any time for the hobby and that has got to change. I was also considering adding brakes but from what Twinman wrote maybe it isn't a good idea. A gradual build up of speed for take off. I was thinking of taxi out lock brakes run up engines and let go but this could be problematic with nose overs. What do you guys think?

The retracts I put in are the Robart 510 series pneumatic robostrut ready.
From videos of Twinman flying his, I dont think brakes for take off as you mentioned are necessary. IF you wanted to run up the motors, have someone stand in front of the horizontal stab and then when your ready, ease back while holding the front of the vertical stab and let go when you say so.

Guys, the helper holding the plane at full power and letting go..WILL RESULT in nose over!
Brakes...no need, lands slow, no problem at all for landing.
Good Luck,

What do you recommend for onboard glow driver? I have a Sonic tronic Twin onboard glw on a Saito FA90-TS. It worked fine on that motor, but, I am trying to get it to work now and it is not behaving...it'll act liem its working, but it simply wont heat the glow plug. It is sending juice to the plug as I can see it sparking a litle wehen I hold both the ground and the glow conenctor head against the motor. So, I was wondering what other brands you might recommend(for single cylinder). Expert Electronics has one, but I cant find much info regarding it....sold through Horizon.
Electrodynamics has one, but I dont know who they are and they use a single sub C battery.

I'd prefer to use 2nd rx pack(this is what i did with the 90 twin)

Just a thought, you might check your wire length verses size. If you are going from the center of the fuse to an outboard engine, that is a very long way. Might be as simple as needing a bigger wire.
My two cents...now give them back,,,headed to hobby store!!

The Sonic tronic setup is pre-wired. The length of the wires is rather long, but this thing did work before. I may have to try one from MPI since I know maxxprod are good.

Sonis Tronic who sells McDanial products has a unit for four engine planes. They will custom make the harness for you. I plan on using this system on mine as I plan on having the engines inverted.
Thanks Twinman for the advice on the brakes. With the 85 degree retracts maybe it will be less likly to tip over.
Kahlog, Were you able to extend the struts any from the stock units? This would also help.

Ok.....first Thanks for the input. I, however, do not need the onboard glow for the B-17 as mine is electric. I was asking about brands that are good besides Mcdaniels for a single cylinder for an H9 Spitfire. I have a twin onboard set from Mcdaniels(Sonic Tronics) and it doesnt want to function right anymore.

As far as the struts..........I could have easily have use struts longer then the stock set since my retracts are using robostruts and not the stock struts. I did have to cut the robostruts down some from the length they come as. My engine nacelles are longer then the stock CD kit has them....both due to fitting in the retract gear when up and also to actually get the correct scale length relative to the fuselage.
When my gear is down, they are much farther forward then the stock static struts are.....in the picture the wheels are extended partally in front of the leading edge.

Ok boys, it's almost engine start day!!! I have finished most of the detail work I wanted to do. What's left? Let's see. I want to make a new nose bubble and a new ball turrent. The nose is just so I have an extra one if I need it and I just don't like the ball that came with the kit. After that I just have to get the radio gear inside squared away and then it's time to start running in engines.

Thanks for all the help and I will post picutres of the finished product and report on the first mission which is scheduled for May 5th.

Wanted to get a closer look at your work but the pics won't enlarge. Looks good what I can see. Been running my engines on a test stand. Hope to get back to the fortress soon

Yep you are right. Strange. I got a good look anyway. Very nice. I like the way you did the front side windows. My eye sight isn't that great did you draw them on or apply a small patch of covering?
