At this time it is one of the only games in town.

It does a reasonable job on Lithium Ion or Lithium Polymer. Their settings are quite conservative to minimize the danger of overcharging and damaging the packs. Consequently this is a minor penalty in the state of charge they achieve on these cells.

thanks for the fast reply
do you think i'd be better off with a :

Wes Tech Lithium Charger
see it here.: and scroll 1/2 way down
http://www.helihobby.com/html/piccolo_electronics.html

it's a lower cost solution and only a single perpose charger for lipo's, but will it charge the lipo's better than the triton?

thanks again

Without actually testing the Wes Tech I would have no idea if it is better than the Triton.

It's this damn cold weather we are having. I didn't get old and wrinkled to move to Florida to FREEZE to death. I don't think it got above 60 today. Had swap meet at the field, no one would take their hands out of their pockets to buy anything.

Could I attach the one red wire to the yellow wire so that the power suppy would turn off and on only when a battery was connected and charging?

Red, When I tested the Triton, it apparently fully charged the larger LiPolys, e.g., Kokam 1020-3270s.

Have you observed variation in the Triton charging performance apparently depending on the C of the charged cell?

Yes the higher the capacity of the cells the more closely the Triton brings them to full charge. Backing off on the charge rate also gets them charged to a higher state, albeit taking a lot longer. Life is full of trade offs. With my Lite stick on 2 1020 cells I get a half hour of flying - more than enough, so I don't even bother charging at the field.

Hey guys, I just got a Triton and I have two questions. First, while charging Ni-Cds, every few minutes the amperage display will go to zero and the volts will drop. A few seconds later it will come back up. With this being my first charger with a amp display, I don't know if it is normal. Second, has anyone had trouble with the rotary button sticking? Mabey some use will loosen it up. Thanks Ed

What you are seeing is normal, the Triton samples the voltage without any charge current periodically. Standard proceedure on lots of these types of chargers.

Sticky rotary knob is due to interference between the red plastic bessel and the knob shaft. Losen the screws on the black end pieces and see if you can shift the position of the red plastic just a bit to relieve the interference.

Here's some more info on the Triton and apparent variation in LiPoly cell charging depending on cell size:

Hi all,

Back when I started charging batteries for my cars I bought a Competition Charger and a 20A variable AC power supply. I had to install some capacitors on the output of the power supply so when the charger surged it would handle it or I would get a brown out or an error when charging.

This could be th same thing if you use a power source that does not have enough surge amperage.

Just a thought.

Also if anyone knows where I can get a Triton charger in the Atlanta, GA area please let me know.

Later
Jimmy
