Popper is right one speed, but you can convert it to a 2 speed with only three parts, 2 speed clutchbell, 2 speed tranny from either tronado xp or lightning vx, depends on track, different ratios, and the xp's brake camshaft

#2023, 2043,6034 are from the tornado xp,or 2076 tranny from the lightning, depends on the gearing you want to run, also track and driving style dependant

what do you mean by gearing, track, & driving style? Because the lighning tranny is cheaper.

is there an advantage to having a 2 speed to a 1 speed or viceversa? Besides the cool sound of course.[

your better off with the single speed in the truck with the bigger tires, too much stress on the 2 speed unless your gonna run it on road, off road you better off with the single speed, my volcano keeps up with my hpi mt and is very fast.

traxxas #4146x spring will work but not the shoes, use the stock shoes(they work fine)and use the traxxas spring and it will last a long time.

you put them on your feet , sorry, had to do it.

They are under the clutch bell that are wrapped with a spring, the faster the engine spins the faster the 2 clutches spin and the more the spring expands and the shoes rub on the inside of the clutch bell and grab and move the gears.

Just FYI it also looks to me that the Losi (for the XXXNT) and MIP (for the RC10GT) and the Duratrax (for the Evader nitros) clutch springs will fit.

and agnoli, the problem with tires is th estock rims. any 12mm HPI 2.2" rim will fit, and then you can get some pimp Pro-Line Moabs

thurderbirdjunkie, it nice to throw out some names of things that will work but how about some part numbers so people can order them, i know for a fact that the 4146x spring will work with the redcat clutches, i didnt just say a traxxas spring.

two pairs of HPI 3406 (sweet wheels IMO-always remember there's a little search box for Tower Hobbies in the top left when you're looking at a thread) and Pro-Line Moab 2.2s (PRO1120-00 is the PN) is what I'm planning on running on my Volcano

but there are so many companies and so many wheels that just HPI makes, let alone the other options like Imex and Proline.

I'm using the RPM Slingshot 81893 Wheel with the HPI Geolander 2.2 tire. I need to post pics, but I must say they look smooth. The tires are a bit smaller than stock. I wanted a better A/T tire for street driving because I was wearing out the stock tires too fast. These tires are great and it handles a ton better. I also changed the shock oil out with some Associated 40 weight shock oil. It totally changes the way the truck handles.

Sand + plastic gears= a mess. LOL... Up on the top of the page there are buttons. 1 is Search. Do a search on SAND in the truck forums. you'll get some good advice. Bring a can or 2 of canned air. I keep 1 in my parts/pit box. You can blow any sand off from around the fuel tank before filling and from around the glow plug, gears, etc. Don't get sand in the fuel tank! Better yet buy a $3 fuel filter for the fuel line. Stay away from the Water! Popper may know some more since he lives in a sandbox called Florida. I know from the little sandpit area we rode in grains of sand would get caught in the teeth of the gears and chew the clutchbell and gears all to hell. Oh and make sure if you do that they allow RC's on the beach! Wouldn't wantcha to get in trouble.
