I bought a charger (duratrax intellipeak digital pulse charger) from my local hobby store. they said this is the one i need for chargeing nimh and nicad receiver batteries.but now I read the instructions and they say do not discharge anything below subC batteries.has any one used this charger before?

The charger is mainly used by eCar guys who use sub-c and rarely anything smaller. And they are usually high performance high capacity (3000Mah or larger) batteries. The discharge current is therefore set very high (usually over 1.5 amps). So it's not really suited for use with AA batteries unless you can adjust the discharge current down to around .5 amps.

I have carefully used one to recharge 4 and 8 cell Nicad and NIMH packs and have had no problem. I usually discharge my ZAGI batteries flying at full throttle and have seen no ill effects during 1 amp fast recharging. Slow charging seems to be absolutely stressless.

I have conditioned both kinds of packs with the switch on the back set to 2 amps with no problem YET. Cells get warm, but certainly not hot. I wouldn't dare set it to the 10 amp discharge position with AA cells.

I have even used it to recharge individual AA's for my digital camera by putting them in a 4 cell battery pack case from Radio Shack. Things get warm, but I don't allow them to get too hot to handle... just keep the charge rate low.

Mugwa is correct about the design objective. Like you, I kept it too long after purchase before I figured out it's not really meant for sub-C cells, so I couldn't return it. But I have "made do" with it and have had no problems. If I could return it, I would.

SAFETY NOTE: DO NOT try high amp charging of AA or AAA cells! I can guarantee it will QUICKLY overheat them and probably cause them to explode!
