Great photos and great taste in camera equipment. I also have a 20D and the 28-135 IS lens as well and find the combination to produce excellant photos. Here is one of mine taken with the 20D and the 28-135 IS at our club field.

Keep taking photos

Sam

Very cool, maybe I should'nt have downsized them so much.
I have been a Canon fan for years and when I got to try the 20D i had to have one!! Even the wife is a convert now!
Still thinking about an L lens, yeah dream on, maybe.

We I started in photography back in the mid 70's I was all Nikon. My first digital was a Fuji S602Z then when I decided to move up to DSLR I looked at Nikon and Canon and this was the time the 20D was just entering the market. After looking at the 20D I was sold. I have loved the 20D from day one and last May decided to add the 100-400MM L IS lense to my outfit. It took a month to sway my wife but she came around to my side. The 100-400 is a fantastic lense which I use a lot and am glad I went with it. Here is a photo taken at Warbirds over Delaware last July. The photo was taken with the 20D and the 100-400L at 400mm

Awesome images guys!

Being a professional photographer here in Canada, our company bought eight of the 20D's last year. Each of our staff enjoys them like its going out of style.

About the one thing that I don't like about it is that you have to calibrate the white balance every time you turn it on.

Other than that, awesome!

Beautiful collection!
Now you've done it, got to get the plastic out.
Are those mainly shot handheld with the 100-400L ?

I upgraded from a 300D to the 20D last year. Fantastic camera, and very well suited to R/C photography. I also have the 28-135 which stays on most of the time. For long shots, I have the Sigma 70-300 APO which is ok, but I am really eyeing up the 100-400L. I am glad you posted these. check out some of my aviation shots at: http://www.pbase.com/ncbrit/planes

All the photos in the 2 links above were shot handheld. I purchased a monopod with a ball head along with the 100-400 but I just have not been able to get confortable with it. I guess I need to get out and use it more to get more. Go for the 100-400L and you will not be sorry.

Yes I agree the 20D is well suited for RC and full scale photography. Coupled with the 100-400L makes an awesome combination. Very nice gallery by the way. Thanks for posting the link.

As we all know, tripods do a great job. For the life of me though, I was never mor convinced at just how much more sharp thay can make your image. ESPECIALLY, here in the digital world. Since all lines are composed of a series of staggered pixels, the jagged lines get very distasteful. At the higher speeds, sure, we're OK!
However, in the waneing hours of daylight, you're bound to be useing a slower shutter speed.

Give this a try. HANDHOLD a shot set at 1/100 sec. Then shoot the same thing with a pod. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

For years, the mfg of film would tell us to use the ASA of the film as the shutter speed set at ƒ/16 for a bright day. OK, sounds great. and we did!

TRUST the old man here, just once. and do it with a tripod.

I was sold! I shot for litterally decades -- handheld. Digital came along and changed - no -- helped me to even get better.

for what its worth>>>>

Have a great day guys

I enjoy photography a lot but it is a hobby and I am an amateur at it so my question is going to seem dumb. You said about setting the white balance each time you turn on the camera. I understand white balance a little and know that there are different products on the market to use to set the white balance. I have been shooting strictly RAW and using Raw Shooter Premium to convert the images. I set my 20D to auto white balance and then adjust in Raw Shooter if needed. Should I still be setting my white balance on location? What do you reccomend to use to set the white balance?

As for the monopod I know I need to start using it all the time until I get confortable with it. There is no doubt the photos will improve and the keepers will increase.

Thanks for the advise

Ive got a mono manfrotto and a tripod but lugging it around is a pain...plus I fly as well.
Have you had any dust problems with the push pull on the 100-400?...Im real close

My monopod is also a manfrotto with a ball head and quick release. I also have a Silt tripod which I use on from time to time mainly at night shooting the moon. I have not had any problems with dust from the push pull of the lens. I know there has been a lot of discussion about the push pull and I too had some second thoughts. After using it I have fallen in love with it. The push pull makes it quick to zoom in or out on the subject and when you are shooting a moving plane it make a world of difference zooming over the conventional twist lens.

Ive been given the green lite but cant make up my mind on the 70-200L or the 100-400L, I guess I already have the 28-135IS which is performing much better now that Canon replaced the IS mech( couldnt figure out why all shots came out blurry after a while)and while it isnt an L it seem pretty good.
Even tho I was green lighted it still is hard to shell out that much!!!
