We fly out on Long Island and it's quite windy this week!

Video shot with the $30 CVS video cam! (modded, of course)

No "major crashes" from the wind but I did have some tail boom strikes while trying to land. I flew with flat bottom blades and stock Nimh battery but I did have heat sinks on the motors...

That's the kind of day where I put the helis and planes away and grab the trusty LST. Or just fly in the basement... Nice flying, I can handle like half that much wind but it's more nerve wraking than fun.

To be honest the Blade "weather-vanes" nicely and little stick input is needed unless I get gusts from varying directions. The weather is finally warm and I'm taking every chance to fly! BTW, what is the "LST?"

From what I understand, a rotor is essentially a "wing"

Since helicopters are "rotary wing" aircraft it's kind of hard to argue that it's not proper use of the word, but in conversations with heli pilots, instructors, and maintainers I've never once heard them use the term "wing" when referring to one of the main or tail rotor blades.
You're both right. Or are you both wrong?...

incidently, have you ever flown with a LiPo or is it always the NiMh? I'd be interested to know whether the difference in weight between the two would give the NiMh any noticeable advantage in the wind.

This is too funny. I looked at my post and realized that I typed "wing" instead of "wind". lol. I did not mean to start a technical discussion! I've yet to run a lipo for fear of burning out the tail and/or trashing the battery by running it down too low. I'll have to get the nerve and wallet out to give it a try one day soon!
