Which is a better, more stable helicopter, the Walkera Dragonfly 36 or 60? Which is better all stock, and which is better with a 1800 Li-Po battery??? Thanx for your help!

Colin

Go for the No. 60 as it come with the Aluminium Body Frame

ziggy653 -> RE: Walkera 36 or 60 (4/20/2006 10:02:24 PM)

Well mine is on it's way and we'll see what we get!!!!!!! With the new updates it should have similar characteristcs, however a little more stability in the Aluminum Frame. Mine will be stock as I will want to ad some after market hop ups, but for now only days away. Good luck to you and all of us who have purchased or are thinking of it, keep posting and reading. I am still waiting for my DF60 I think it will be better than the 36 because of the aluminum frame and all add on but we can tell until we try it.

az-pc -> RE: Walkera 36 or 60 (5/1/2006 4:17:32 AM)

I just ordered a 36. I would say however if you can pay the price, the 60 is probably going to be much better. From some I have heared the new electronics with the 7 channel transmitter as suppose to be much better. I don't know about the frame being aluminum. Someone told me it was actually steel but I have not seen one personnally.

ziggy653 -> RE: Walkera 36 or 60 (5/2/2006 4:21:10 AM)

[:D]Well I just opened the box and all seems well. The battery had a partial charge, enough to see it rotate, so I went ahead and lubed all the parts and checked out all of the servo throws. I then removed the blades and balanced them on a gram scale and they were a match. I zip tied the wires up and away, not a bad factory job, but I like it neat so I went to town with a few zip ties. Also I rerouted the wire from the speed controller to the motor through the frame and behind the tail rotor linkage , wrapping the wires in electrical tape so they will not rub on the ALUMINUM Frame.......... I removed the motor and hooked up the battery and pressed the red button on the speed controller, make sure your transmitter panel switch is on N and not #1 as this will be full power, I ran the motor at variable RPM with no resistance for a few minutes then spayed it with cleaner and put it back in. When I reinstalled the motor I moved it back ever so little just to insure a snug mesh on the gears ( Lots of tourque here folks ) stock had too much play and would have stipped main in no time. Also a little dab of light grease goes a long ways on the main gear. Well blades back on and in went my cam, the battery still had some juice so I sat on the floor and just hovered rotated left and right, but maybe tomorrow I'll have a good charge and the wind will be gone and get some air beneath me....[:)][8D]

ziggy, was it really an aluminum frame?

Matrix11_103 -> RE: Walkera 36 or 60 (5/2/2006 11:02:32 PM)

I just ordered a DF60 and i Venom Night ranger 3d today, eveyone says the Night Ranger is much better. I hope they both are good! I CANT WAIT!!!

Matrix11_103 -> RE: Walkera 36 or 60 (5/3/2006 11:40:45 PM)

just got my helis today. First i took out the DF60 and put the battery in(Li-Po) and i put the throttle to about half and i smoothly took off, leaned to the left a little, but thats a small adjustment. Next i got my Night ranger 3d with brushless and lipo out for some 3d mode,. First i hovered it then went ot 3d mode and did loops rolls, and inverted hover. Once i did inverted hover with it about 5 inches from the ground! It was a nervous time! But i would recomend both these models to anyone.....

My #36 Just Arrived. Everything looks good and tight. All the electronics seem to be working properly. Can't wait to get it up off the ground.

az post some videos of you first flights.. this makes alot of people to think differently with walkera helis... as we all this heli flies and works as good as any other heli in the market.. just need more tinkering and fixing to make things right...

credence -> RE: Walkera 36 or 60 (5/6/2006 4:22:05 PM)

Judging from these posts, either everyone here is very lucky, or Walkera is improving it's quality assurance program :). I sincerely hope it's the latter.

az-pc -> RE: Walkera 36 or 60 (5/7/2006 11:47:14 PM)

This is my first Heli. The #36 does appear well made. The radio seems to respond well and I have not had any real issues yet. I did have to do some setup on it. The main issue I had was the tail rotor. The heli spun to the left no matter how much the trim was adjusted. Took out the set scews on the tail rotor assembly and slid the mechnism out a bit and then moved the servo a little to center the rotor assembly. Worked great after that. It was the first time I have worked on a heli but it was a pretty simple process.
All the fittings were tight and I really havn't done anything else. I have only had it a short time. Time will tell if I don't spin it into the ground too soon. Bought it for $91 New. The latest version. That price is hard to beat.

soneebee -> RE: Walkera 36 or 60 (5/8/2006 2:19:57 AM)

az were did you bought your heli.. that too cheap for a 36?

az-pc -> RE: Walkera 36 or 60 (5/8/2006 6:20:45 AM)

Ebay. The seller has a lot of them for sale. Of course it was an auction so you have to bid but I have seen some go for a little less at this seller. I had it in my hands just a few days after the auction. I was very happy with the process and the good shipping and sale. The seller also had a lot of positive feedback. I don't know how they sell them for their prices but they were great to work with. I would buy for them again without hesitation.

I am no heli expert, this is my first one. I have had it off the ground a few times and it is a handful but fun! Still learning how it all works but I have to say the flight issues that I have had thus far have been my lack of experience not because of the Model. A bit much for a beginner model so I am trying to take it slow and not spin it into the ground in a million pieces. I think I might be catching the Heli addiction. Flying a Helicopter this size is very difficult (I don't know about larger ones because this is the first one I have tried). The hardest thing for me so far to learn has been to not sit on the ground for a long time letting it spin up. I was so hesitant the battery didn't have much time after I fooled around with it. If you spend a lot of time on the ground and slowly build up to takeoff, then it seem the battery does not have much power and its harder to lift off. When I wind up quickly and take off, it seem to have plenty of power and is more stable. On the downside however to the quick take off is the ability to quickly crash and end up with a bunch of pieces, not something I want to do too soon (highly likely at some point however). The forum here has been most helpful! I read and read before I even made the purchase. I felt pretty knowlegable on the subject before getting involved so it didn't suprise me at all that it was a difficult thing to master, if I ever do.

badgerfarm -> RE: Walkera 36 or 60 (10/21/2006 9:02:40 PM)

Hi Sergio,
I have found that with the Walkera helis the more upgrades that they come with the better off you will be. I might buy the 60 or the 62 to go with the 36 and 37 that I already have. Look whatever you buy over really well before trying to fly it and you will be glad that you spent the extra time. It makes all the difference in the world in the way that they perform.

Chophop -> RE: Walkera 36 or 60 (10/23/2006 10:04:07 PM)

I predict the plastic frame of the 36 wil flex in wrecks and be more likely to escape damage.

Soccerking3000 -> RE: Walkera 36 or 60 (10/24/2006 12:36:55 AM)

i would go with the 60 mainly because of the metal frame (i do suggest you get teh 60B frame its stronger/better aluminum) and also because the swash plate is in a 120* setup as opposed to 90* on the 36

rctoyhouse -> RE: Walkera 36 or 60 (3/17/2007 5:12:56 AM)

Walkera 60 I think is more stable and durable with the metal frame. Would get brushless motor version with li-poly battery if you want to have longer and smoother flights.

davenraithatha -> RE: Walkera 36 or 60 (3/18/2007 9:53:15 AM)

I have both the 60 and the 36 and IMO i think the 36 is better, its slightly more stable and is better for a beginner. The metal frame on the 60 isn't al its cracked up to be, its very very soft on a hard landing the frame bent very easily (but is easy to bend back) the 36 frame isn't all that bad. also if you use a 3 cell 10c 2200mah lipo like i do then you wont be able to use it on the 60 because the canopy wont fit over it but it fit perfectly in the 36. however the 36 wont fly with the stock setup, a brushless motor is a must for this heli (stay away from walkera's brushless motors, they suck, i toasted 2 of them in 2 flights). but the 60 will fly stock. the 60 is much more menuverable and sensitive and twitchy with the controls as opposed to the 36 which isnt and wont roll over as much.

bmw330i -> RE: Walkera 36 or 60 (3/21/2007 9:26:35 AM)

I bought a Walkera DF60#

Very responsive, smooth and out of the box RTF only required a minute at the hobby shop for them to trim it to a hands off hover. I took it home and moved the tail rotor collar to get the trim back near the center (i.e. decreased tail rotor pitch). Very very responsive. I wouldn't say twitchy but just sensitive and fast to react to inputs. With steady hands it was very stable. I'm not yet doing forward flight but hovering around is way more stable than my Shogun V1 with far more $$ spent in electronics and upgrades (it also has brushless/lipo).

Issues:
- one bell-crank screw is nearly stripped so I use a little CA adhesive to lock in the screw.

Things I like:
- Rock Steady RTF out of the box. Just charge and fly these past few days
- Responsive. Correcting gives instant response.
- Out of the box it had all I wished the Shogun came with (brushless, lipo, belt-drive tail)

Upgrades planned:
- when I learn to fly it better I'll upgrade to metal head and tail
- Motor Upgrade (no complaints now but always room to improve right)
- Carbon blades
- Carbon frame ( I hear someone has one out there)
- Wireless Video Camera

I'd buy another in a second. When my Shogun expires I'm getting another Walkera. I'd rather RTF and fly than spend my time tinkering around with build-it-yourself. Just my preference. I'm curious about the other Models. Will read the other forums.
