Why does this have to be so complicated? Simple is always better. This tiered system does nothing to get the parkflyers involved, and complicates things for the general membership. I keep hearing about the turbine waivers. They were needed, simply because of the safety factor. They are complex, fast, carry a lot of fuel, and have a tendency to burn when crashed (Bummer jet dude!). The waiver shows that a pilot is capable of safely operating these. Makes sense, and the jet guys probably feel a bit of pride and responsibility for being trusted with this technology.
I don't consider that a tiered system, just something that was needed for a special emerging modelling field.

Other than that, what is wrong wiyh the Idea of a first year discount to all new pilots to get them in the door. Make up the diff by making the mag bi-monthly for them. Simple, enforceable, and easy to track who stays or leaves after the first year.

The tiered system will be impossible to police, and will probably due more to hurt clubs, than help.
My vote is for simplicity and some common sense. Once again of course none of this will work without the clubs being a helpful welcoming group. Lets keep the system simple and work on the real problem, getting the clubs on the same page.

Just my 2 cents once again.

You are right but, add this to your thoughts.....

The main fuel the turbine guys use now days is kerosene and turbine oil which on it's own is hard to ignite (basically you need high compression or some sort of a wick). These guys have have to have training and carry fire extinguishers as part of their safety equipment.

Now on the other hand look at guys that have gasoline engines.... Gasoline if I remember is far more volatile than kerosene. I see guy fueling and smoking at the same time. They have no special training, fly far more riskier and don't, as I know it, have to carry fire extinguishers.

I feel far safer with the turbine guys, then the guys with large planes.... You decide..........

I don't disagree with you, nor am I saying anything against the turbines. I think they are awesome., And Yes, Gas is easier to ignite. However, very few Gassers are 200 mph speedsters, and a Weedwacker type motor (no offense to you 3w etc.. guys) is not as complicated as a turbine. I have seen many videos of crashed turbines burning, never saw one of a gasser going up in smoke. (altho, I'm sure it has happenned somewhere). The point being, Gassers aren't much differrent from glo motors operationally, in some cases they are simpler. Turbines have more complicated start up, shutdown, and safety issues, as well as critical maintenence. This is not to say that they are a problem, just that those who fly them have to be more aware, and adhere to these procedures for reliability & safety. The waiver shows that they understand this, and are capable of handling such a hi performance aircraft. Much to their credit I might add, they do a great job.

What I meant by all that is that the waiver is not a segregation, but more of a comendation of their abilities.
I did not want it to color the issue of the park flyers, or discussion of tiered membership. I am sure that no competent Turbine enthusiast feels like they are being singled out, they understand the capabilities of both themselves and their equip. I don't think you will find that by trying to segregate out the low end of the flying spectrum.

Good luck to you. I was going to go in the Air Force in 1979. Wanted to be a pilot, aced every test they threw at me .... Except the eye test . They still wanted me., I was a coll grad and would be an officer, but other than flying, my heart wasn't in it. My best friend however, was in for over 20 yrs. was in aircraft maint. he is retired, and is now the Curator of aircraft on the US Intrepid. which is a retired carrier turned museum. Just visited him and got the full tour, was excellent. I highly recomend it to anyone visiting NY city.

As long as they leave there hillbilliness where they come from, we don't want to catch it!

It sure will be confusing to some of them. Lots of big buildings with hardly any RC fields ... can you imagine that? And really weird people that sing for you for money while riding a train??? Naked cowboy ... you guy will love em!

If anyone wants to see from top of the Empire State, I took these pics sometime not too long ago.

Thanks Nyflyer.

I don't think I will get to visit the U S Intrepid though. STL won't like the fact that I'm not only a hillbilly, but also a redneck. and I don't particuarly want to see him in his naked cowboy outfit(or lack there of.). Sorry STL, couldn't resist. Nice pics, BTW.

Then don't come to NYC, he's there just about everyday in the middle of time square.

I don't know if he's from Texas, but after reading the posts from Texas residents ... seems like he's from there. Sure dresses like it.

Typical day in Times Square. http://360vr.com/nakedcowboy/

You say Hillbilly like it's a bad thing. Some hillbillies are actually somewhat articulate, and some even have advanced engineering degrees. Wanna have a little discussion on Quantum Cybernetics Yankee?:

STL,
I have an Uncle that is a self made millionaire. Not 2 or 3 million either. Many. He told me that one of the smartest men he ever met was from Arkansas. Where you live or come from doesn't make the man.

I have nothing against hillbillies in fact there is some comedian im watching on Comedy Channel right now whose a hillbilly, funny stuff. It's funny tho he's only talking about his family and how funny they all are. I just find it amausing that these guys always tend to crack on themselves and their family life in their skits.

Really I would prefer to see more southern girls in this hobby, i love their cute little accents. Not as sexy on a guy tho.

Now that is funny. It is a show and only a show. Kind of like professional football or professional wrestling.

So you might not be a redneck if your state's got a new law that says when a couple get divorced, they are still legally brother and sister? This isn't true?? All these years I've been mislead!!

Or as junior asked "If y'all get divorced, are you still my Uncle Daddy?"
