I had some radio glitches with mine as well -- mostly evidenced by the inside gear doors going up and down on their own. I tried moving things around to get the antenna farther away from pushrods, but that didn't help. The problem only showed up when the engine was running, and was fairly intermittent -- I'd think I'd have it solved, then it would show up again.

Ultimately what solved it was switching from a PPM to a PCM receiver.

Thanks Tom. I think my problem is something wrong with the receiver. I took it out of the T-34 and put it in the Giant Aeromaster. I ran the engine for the first time today and at idle it was glitching too. I'm ordering a new 8 channel receiver to see if that takes care of the problem. I'm also considering a new DX-7 radio.

Sounds like it -- I also think vibration might have been an issue on mine. When I installed the new one I used more foam and tried to isolate it a bit better. But I've become a firm believer in PCM -- it definitely eliminates all the little flakiness you sometimes see. Good luck!

A PCM/failsafe system (or any "failsafe", I guess) can mask an impending or "minor" problem. But Horizon's new Spectrum DX-7 looks like a winner - it appears to be almost 100% immune from "static-type" noise (spark ignition, metal-to-metal, etc.). Now that's cool!

Many years ago, I lost a big bird to an intermittent/marginal glitch problem. I promised to never fly again with a radio-system that was in any way glitching. Since then, I have used a glitch counter to test for radio "hits" - PREFLIGHT. Right now, I'm using one of David West's R-C Reporters. http://www.rcreporter.com/ These little things will pick up radio hits that don't even register as servo glitches - even on an PWM/FM system. It's unreal how many hits you get on 10 min flight that you don't even know about...until you download the R-C Reporter after landing. On a "normal" flight, I get about 10 to 30 hits. David sez anything over 100 hits indicates a possible problem. Knowing this before you fly can save a plane. My experience is that much over 200 hits and you'll need a leaf bag - too late for a glitch counter! So...since you're seeing the servos glitching, you're probably already into high-rate hits. And you're doing the right thing by correcting the problem before you fly. IMO using a "low band" failsafe radio is even more reason to use an R-C Reporter.

Thanks for the advice -- the R/C Reporter looks like a good investment of $25. I think I'll pick one up before flying this Spring.

Somewhere earlier in this thread someone asked if anyone had a video of the T-34 flying -- I've got one of mine on this site:

    http://webcast.qcenter.com/tmd/main.php?g2_itemId=19

The "movies" section is in the bottom right corner of the page.

    Tom,

How much does your T-34 weigh and what engine are you using? It looks like it flies great.

It ended up at almost 18 pounds, and I'm using a Saito100 engine. It flies very nicely, but needs a lot of runway to get in the air -- my club has an 800 foot strip, and I usually use about 600 of it. I might be able to goose it into the air more quickly, but I prefer to err on the side of having more airspeed since I have the runway to work with, and I like a nice scale takeoff.

The weight also increases the stall speed, so I have to be careful to not get too slow on landing or it will drop. If I keep some power on and flare real gently, it lands like a charm.

A bit more power to weight would be nice, but unfortunately I had to add almost two pounds of noseweight. I definitely learned a lesson -- next time I'll work a lot harder to keep unnecessary weight out of the tail.

Thanks Tom. Mine weighs almost 18 1/2 lbs. With an ASP .91 sounds like I better test fly on a larger runway than our club's 300 footer.

Yeah, unless you're gutsier than I am (which wouldn't be saying a lot). I think the .91 2-stroke has a little more power than the 100 4-stroke, and with half-flaps you might be able to get off the ground in 300 feet. But I'd definitely suggest having more for your first flights.

For as much as it takes to get it in the air, you'll be surprised how much it wants to float on landing -- so having a longer runway for your first landings will help too.

    Good luck!

    Thanks Tom,

I sure hope spring gets here soon. I found out today that my receiver is okay. I found a couple things on my bipe loose and tightened them and the glitching went away. Guess I'll have to find what's causing the glitches on the T-34 when I get the new receiver in it.

I got a new receiver and put the radio in my Giant Aeromaster. On the first flight it went straight in and totaled itself. It was like the radio went completely dead. That sort of took the wind out of my sails early this year so I haven't done much modeling. I'm saving up to buy a new Futaba 12FGA on 2,4Ghtz. The T-34 will fly eventually.

I am in the stage that I am building the fuselage. In page 36 of the manual in the "Mount servos" section in step 2 the manual is talking about servo tray doubler. Can someone help me find this part, since i can not find it in the parts mentions in the "Die-cut patterns" in page 6 of the manual. I will be glad to get the board name i.e T349f06 and the name of the actual part. Since I can not find/recognize this parts in my kit.

Ok, no help needed I solved the riddle the part was inside the tray itself the funny thing was that I sent a question to towerhobies support so in the first time they return to me with wrong answer and afterwards they correct themself and said that I can do the part my self. I sent them the correct answer.

    Hi,

I am in stage in which I want to install the tail cone on my Top-Flite T-34 mentor. In page 44 of the manual step 3 (Fit the tail cone)
It says that the tail cone should be cut along the cut lines. I don't see any cut lines on the cones, Can someone can send me a picture of those cut lines Are those the dots on cones?. The best will be if someone can send me a picture of the cut cone in its final stage.
