Im just courious of what type of open B combat plane seems to be the most widley used plane? We use the Gremlin in our area. Most of us fly it with the magnum .25 or .28. This is a good combat plane but just looking at other options.

Thanks,
FUZZ

If you haven't been to www.georgiacombat.com, that is a good place to start. In addition to the great Combat debriefs, where you can see what everybody is flying. There is a combat design review section, that gives you some good information on some of the more popular planes. Right now, the Avenger and Scull Bandit are some of the more popular designs.

Been working furiously in the clone lab, and have been able to genetically modify the T-Rex - now with a new wing! Test flights have been great, all conditions of flight have been dramatically improved.

Get ready for the new T-Rex (w/ an EPP leading edge) in 2003!

Sorry, don't have a digital camera - you'll have to get to some contests to fly against this bird of prey.

Hey Fuzz,
There have been quite a few combat planes developed over the last two years.

You can see the Skull Bandit and the new Piranha at www.screamingeaglerc.com

The SPAD family is alive and growing by leaps and bounds, check out www.spadtothebone.com

The Avenger kits is on a site that is one of the premier outlet for scale kits as well as open www.waverc.com

The most popular combat plane over the last two years has been the Bat Trick and its souped up derivative the Choker on www.hattrickrc.com

In addition to Open B class planes there are also many Scale 2610 and Slow Survivable Combat kits (SSC or NERF) available from the above listed sources.

The most popular engines in contests in 2002 have been the OS .25FX with aftermarket mufflers; either the Ultrathrust from www.pspec.com or the Kentucky Mousse Can from www.flyingzhobbies.com. Other frequently seen engines include Norvel, Irvine, and Magnum. Good luck.

Tuff flight preditors are popular out here.

Ive had trouble shutting down magnums, not a big problem, but i go thru a few more props and carbs than folks running OS. I just bought a couple OS 25 FX to fill out my hangar. A few more bucks than the Mag, but i think it'l be worth it. I was looking at a site recently that had a FORA (?) engine on it with a fuel pinch for cut off and no throttle. Maybe some hot control line engine and a fuel pinch would be even better.

I built a hybrid Hell On Rails. I used 1 1/2" (instead of 1" aluminum angle, 32" long. I used it in V configuration, but put a cruciform (conventional) tail group on it. Magnum .28, 48" Debut wing (from www.spadtothebone.com), etc... It flies very nicely. Yes, it is competitive.

A lot of guys are building B-ships based on the 1" aluminum, I used the 1 1/2" just because it is almost exactly the same weight as Canadian PVC per linear foot.

I also fly an Open-A Hell On Rails built on 1" aluminum. V-tail, Magnum .15, etc... extremely agile.

For ease of building, low cost, easy flying and competitive airframes it is pretty hard to beat SPAD, and with HOR it is even easier to build than before.

Oh yeah...I forgot to ask where the pictures are! One of the requirements for designing a succesfull combat plane is that you have to show us pictures...at least enough so that we have the info needed to build one...I think it's in the rules somewhere

You have to show up and fly against the new design and get your butt kicked. Then you go and take a look at the new design and ask questions. The new design should be allowed to kick your butt first against your old design. Then, after a few events, the pictures should be released. You have to give the designer time to make "profit" off of their design.
