I recently acquired a BOBCAT rc airplane made by southern r/c products, i dont know much about rc airplanes, but it looks old. The plane is in its original box (which was never opened untill i opened it) the box is quite large actually about 4 feet long, all of the parts are wrappped nicely in brown paper, and all wood is dry, and straight, the kit is in mint condition, i believe somebody bought it and forgot about it. Anyways.....i was wondering if anybody had any informationbon this particular plane (date it was made, ANYTHING...) i WOULD LOVE TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PLANE...

thanks so much

Well...it's an early to mid 70's design by Ron Chidgey (sp?) and a smaller, .40 sized version of his .60 sized pattern champ "Tiger Tail"...
A friend had the Bobcat w/ an HP .40 and flew the snot out of it for a couple years...flew almost as good as the big one IMO.

SJD,

I have been carting around a fiberglass fuselage for a BOBCAT for at LEAST 15 years. I'd would like to know if it would be possible to get a copy of the plans for the plane?... It would certainly be greatly appreciated !!!... One thing you didn't mention.... does the kit have foam wings??? If it does, and pencil outline of the wing root/tip and stab root/tip would be a huge help.... I would certainly cover the costs of printing/mailing. Send me a PM if you would be kind enough to do this....

The fuselage I have was given to me at a swap meet in Virginia around 1985 or so..... the guy who had it basically didn't know what it was, and offered it at "auction"... but there were no takers...and so he just asked if anyone wanted it.... Never having enough fiberglass fuselages I took it.... Only took me about 10 years to identify the fuselage.. and I've been looking forever to get a set of plans... so if you can help, it would be great.

Thanks,

Dan

there were two types of kits the one you have and the one i have which was one of the first arc almost ready to cover planes,i think they called it the deluxe version.it is a 60 percent reduction of the tigertail.i have been trying to get a set of planes since none were included in the arc version and would pay for your time and expense.let me know if this would be possible.

Mike,

I built a Southern R/C Bobcat in 1973. I powered mine with a SupreTigre .46. It flew like a pattern plane and would do vertical rolls out of sight.

You'll find some photos of it here:

Great flying airplane. I found one built at Prince george rc swap meet in april this year. It was primed with grey primer but never had an engine or radio installed. I put servos and pushrods in and installed a OS Max 40SF. with a 4 oz tank. It can fit a six ounce tank but that was too much work.
