i have a few q's about breaking in a new engine. should i leave the carb with its factory stetings. should a lean/richen it at all. i hear all different opinions about haveing the engine too lean or too rich. what should a have my carb set at to break it in???

Keep The carb at factory settings. when you start it up and runs, then you can make adjustments and tune it following the other posts.

Got a problem with my Volcano SV engine. It is Stock except for a Redcat tuned Muffler. Was running great. Fast and responsive. Temps around 220 - 240 depending on the weather. I was running the truck when I noticed that the engine pitch( sound) changed. Got Louder n throatier. Temps rose to 300 - 318 . Temps stay near 300 ( after 5 min warm up drive) even when I richen the mixture a whole lot. I'm guessing that I have an air leak somewhere. I wuold like to confirm it though ( and Locate it ) before I tear the engine down and seal it with RTV sealant. What is the best way to find the leak? Soapy water ? ( on a hot engine?) . Or is there another way?

make sure the tank is sealed good and pressured good. i find if you put nitro fuel in a spray bottle, run the engine and start to spray the car, if the idle changes, thats where the leak is, also make sure the carbs not blocked and fuel is flowing freely.

Carb Blocked? You mean like schmutz in the carb? And to pressure test the Gas Tank, can I blow ( no Jokes pls...lol.) in the tube that goes from the muffler to the tank, and use a soapy water on a small craft paint brush to check the seal for leaks?

I DO have clear fuel Tubing and I dont see any air bubles, at least at Idle. Idles High too, and seems to be getting worse(higher). Other that that, still runs ok.( other than High temps). No stuttering, or stalling at speed or when I bake.

are you sure your temp gun is ok? did you do a spit test?

Temp Gun ok? Probably is ok. I tested it at work( i fix aircraft,have access to test equip) last week when i bought it and it is pretty accurate for $30 gauge. Actually,( lol ) I was Surprised at the accuracy. +/- about 3 degrees.
Spit test? No I did not. But I could FEEL the heat. Thats a good idea though. I WILL do a spit test tomorrow morning,when I spray the engine w/ fuel. Never hurts to double check a test result.

Rich... i dont think it would be a GOOD IDEA TO SPRAY UR ENGINE WITH FUEL..... i think you ment. spray it with soap/water/ ???? i hope thats what u mean... lol..

No......Fuel......EHROOF says so. See above posts..
I dont think these engines get hot enuf to combust fuel at atmospheric pressure (no compression OUTSIDE the engine). Engine is only generating approximatly 300 degrees. Spraying the engine w/ fuel (lotsa oil in that fuel) probably COOLS the engine down some. Besides....imagine the Video! Flamming RC car drives under Moving SUV. SUV explodes, causing chain reaction. City block goes up in flames! Headline reads, " AUTHORITIES SEARCH FOR RC ENTHUSIAST! " LOL!

i want to chance clutch bell on my tsunami to a 13/18 will i have to change shoes and spring to do this.........this forum rocks ......ive had my tsunami for 3 days now and love it
