Hello.. I`m building a twin otter with a wingspan of 125 inches, and fuselage lenght of 100 inch.
This is a model i wil build and fly to se it work properly, and then if there are a marked for it i will consider to start selling these aircraft to coustomers. The Kit wil be a complete set with a fiberglass fuselage with undercarriage and scale windows, door hinges,
scale flap hinging system with more. The stabilisator, fin and vings will be made in balsa.
The model will be driven by two 120. size fourstroke engines.

I allready have built and flown a minor scale twin otter in function driven by two OS.70 fourstroke engines,
and have a wingspan of 105inches.
This model flies as a dream, and have absolutely NO stall or other bad tendenses.

Wil consider making these models on orders. Minimum 10 orders before production begins.
Sign up for your model now!
The prise wil probably be around 2000Dollar
Mail me on: kjetil_mathisen@hotmail.com

Something must be wrong on RCU's server because I've noticed a lot of threads where the pictures won't show.

I would be interested in your Twin Otter. Would you be able to ship to the US or is it too big (100" glass fuselage)?

I am PMing you with my email address. Could you send the pics to that address?

Don

Kjetil:

Great Idea!

Convince me it's a good kit, and I want to be first on the list!

I've been looking for an Otter kit this size for years.

Updating this old thread as I love Twin Otters! I just received an email from Kjetil and understand that he cancelled the project. He added that no plans are available.

If anyone knows of anyone kitting a 100 inch to 130 inch DHC-6 Twin Otter, please post here. I flew a 100 inch span version a decade or so ago in Northern Idaho and it was one of the best flying and fun RC Models. Great way to enter flying twins.

I gave up trying to find a large twin otter kit so am building a 1/6 scale (130") from my own plans using auto-cad and factory data, hope to have a couple of these tested by fall one with electric power and mine with 35cc gass engines john

Nice Work!

As per thailazer: I, too would be an automatic customer if anyone came out with a kit or plans in that size range. The Otter has always been a twin I wanted to build.

Please keep us informed and updated.

Thanks for sharing,

mt

At $2000, that price would have severely limited the chance of goos sales - as one poster wrote, "Wow !"

Now, here's a thought, how about joint venturing with an outfit in Thailand to produce the kit for sale world wide ? At say below half the selling price mentioned previously ie below $1000 as an initial target figure - say $500 to $700 ? Malcolm Logan

John,

I really like the look of your fuse so far.

I have been trying to find a good replica of the Twin Otter and from the looks of yours the shape of the fuselage is quite nice. I would like to see what you do for window angles and a nose section as I find this is the area that most of the plans and the ARF kits have failed in. The nose sections start looking like a dornier, the cockpit side windows on some wrap around instead of being flat and on others the windows are tilted back like what you would find on a C-208. The best look I have seen so far has been Mathisen's setup.

Are you going to make your plans and notes available for purchase?

I fly the twin otter for a living and would like to make a model that closely represents the aircraft that I go to work on. I would like to have it set up to fly on skis as I figure break-up and freeze-up are the only times of the year that I really have time to play anyway. Our summer float season is very busy. I would like to put the short nose on as I prefer it over the extended nose that is seen on most replicas and commuter versions of the twin otter.

Keep up the good work!

Wow, it's great to see all these DHC-6 fans! And drivers too. I got a chance to fly the full scale version once and a go around with flaps down is a real thrill. Nose down about 20 degrees and climbing like a banshee! I live not far from Malcolm, know the good man, and I would be willing to partner with him once a good set of plans becomes available. John LB, will you be making plans available?

Ohhh, I was just thinking of a large scale twotter. I would love to have something for the 2 26cc range. I used to maintain twins up in Yellowknife, and would love to model one. And as AhmicAir said, it would be nice to see one with a short nose, and good scale lines. I too find that a very lacking feauture on most twin models.

Hi guys the 1/6 scale Twin Otter (130") project is progressing slowly The electric powered is farther along than mine that will use 2 Evolution 35 gas engines both will weigh about 40 lbe finished. The plans are pretty well finished. hope to fly the 2 prototypes before winter, if all goes well hope to offer plans and possibly wood kits sometime in the future will try to attach a picture of the electric prototype being built by Hank Harjes who is doing a great job
