I had a Sullivan Skywriter that worked great, except for the fact that it was causing my radio to glitch. It took me quite a while to figure out it was the pump that was causing the problem. I opened it up and just by moving the PC board it would intermittently cause the radio to glitch. Also, I never could get the pump to stop running, using my PMIX on my Futaba so that I had full smoke at full throttle, progressively less to half throttle, and none at below half throttle.
So now I'm doing my pre-purchase research on the other brands. Anybody have glitching problems with the Slimline or 3W?
thanks,
Sam
PS: I echo the praise for SuperDri. I used up the last of my Bennett's and switched to SuperDri. What a difference! For the relatively small amount of time that I use smoke, the money is well spent on SuperDri.

The best smoke system is one that will work when needed and will not LEAK and create a mess inside your model, like TME Simple Smoke did on my Yak54.

What leaked- lines or the pump itself?

It was the pump itself that leaked... only took 4 flight to start leaking maybe less, it took me 4 flights to realize it was leaking...

I tested the pump outside the model and could clearly see it leaking.

Anyway, I ordered another TME pump cause I loved the way it performed when it did... Going to take a chance here.

I have a TME smart pump and a futaba 9c. I am using the MIX 6 and have the throttle as master and the pump as slave on ch.5
I am using the suggested mix setup from Futaba FAQ and have the switch on (A). I have my ch.5 end points at 2/100. With the one end point at 2%, the pump will drain my 16oz. tank at the rate of around 3oz. per min. in about 5 min. I'm just wondering if 2% sounds right? The pump is barely running, and just kind of spuddering the oil out into my container I am using for measuring the rate. If I turn the rate up to 5 or 10% it really comes out a lot quicker. I have read where some guys are using around 30% ATV. Am I doing something wrong? or does this sound normal?

I am looking at putting a smoke system on a plane with an OS .61FX. What would be the best way to make good smoke. Should I use a crankcase pressure tap, or add the weight with an electric pump?

Maybe that header wrap that some guys use on their race cars. Don't know how much it would help though.

i think i remember hearing about wrapping the mufflers to get more smoke and was wondering if anyone else had. i have a H9 edge 540 with DA 100 and sullivan smoke pump.
most of the time i cant get good smoke while hovering, i really want to try to improve that. just wondering if the slimline mufflers have coils inside them or is it just a tap like the stock DA mufflers have?
here are some pics of mine smoking.

You do not need smoke coils on a gasser. If you aren't obtaining the amount of smoke you think you should have try reducing or increasing the oil flow. Generally reducing does the job.

Smoke on a .40 size plane is a waste of time and money. You can't carry the weight of the extra tank, oil, pump, battery, and heavier muffler.

Fay,

You have to assemble it from a Sullivan Field pump
