well that all depends on what smoke oil you use....some you get far more than others.

Diesel fuel= BIg Mess
Diesel and transmission fluid=Big Mess
Mineral Oil= Big Mess
Super Dry= not to bad, easily cleaned up
Almag Oil= not to bad, easily cleaned up

I am sure guys have a million different recipes for smoke oil, personally I like almag oil, makes really thick long lasting ultra white smoke. I haev actually flown my plane in such a manner I haev been able to create a knot in teh sky with the smoke!

I've been very pleased with my new TME programmable pump - about 100 smoking flights so far (a lot of smoke from that plane) - the biggest problem is getting the programming right, but for any electric pump getting the flow rate to throttle setting is always going to be a challenge (I mean if you want to have tons of smoke, and a minimal clean up) .

I have used the previous TME (simple smoke) pump for more than 8 years - and overall I would say I was not terribly happy with it, but the new one is excellent!

how do you program the mix? I have a RD8000 and would have to use channel 8, which is operated by a switch. This channel has endpoint and center adjustment that can be done. I'm guessing that I would use the throttle as the Master and the #8 as the Slave.

Interesting thread. I have used the Don Harris pumps for years with Zero problems.

Of course, the supply of DH pumps is zero (as far as I can tell), so I've been searching for an alternate.

I bought one of the programmable PowerBox pumps from AI. It pumps fine, and seems similar to the DH .. BUT .. the entire range of programmable flow occurs over a very very small range of proportional channel travel .. to the point where it's virtually impossible to adjust the flow rate smoothly.

Are others having this problem? Am I missing something?

Well, I picked up a TME Simple Smoke II at the LHS today. I'll see if I can get it going by tomorrow afternoon and will post some pics.

Hey Guys.... I just Installed a Sullivan Skywriter and fired her up today 4.8v battery, 20oz tank, and Superdry Smoke oil. A short video, nothing fancy... Check it out. http://media.putfile.com/Smoke-On

Finished the install and started it up. Plenty of smoke at just above idle and half throttle where I fly most of the time. Actually, plenty across the whole throttle range. I'll get some pics tomorrow, the rain came in before my assistant arrived to help with taking them.

I just grabbed a jug of Super Dry (spelling?) off the shelf. Seems to work good.

Here's some pics. These pics cost me $60.00. When I was putting the plane back in the garage, the prop tip caught the brick moulding around the garage door and cracked it!

I have a Sullivan Smoke system. Works great. I have a 2 cell lipo running it. Here it is on my 35% Edge/DA100. http://www.mikerc.com/video/Edge%20Flying%206-18-05.wmv

Using Super Dri. I am planning on putting one in a GP Stearman with a Saito 125. Should be cool.

Nice smoke show!

How do you load your video into the windows media player and then get a link to it?
