Status: offline 		I guess it would be redundant for me to suggest that you put a checkerboard under the wing, eh?

Lots of taping to do a checkerboard with paint, though. Might not be too bad to tape up with 3" squares. . .

Here I am, planning extra work for you!

It has that same 'presence' in the air as well, don't you think?

I was just thinking, I haven't re-covered mine yet......

Status: offline 		It's odd that I never made the connection, but then again, I never liked the STA. Mostly due to the landing gear and struts. All that drag made me sick; I spent too many years writing requirements for full scale aircraft and trying to get the "drag counts" as low as possible. It is interesting that at the time, that LG was high tech as far as drag reduction was concerned.

Status: offline 		Wow, I haven't even thought of the Swift for over 30 years. Good plane and Ft Worth history. Boy, I sure miss Oak Grove airport and all the great stunt pilots who came in there.

Got some lipstick put on the GSS  tail feathers, now I just need to add the trim tape and take a picture of the progress. The heat in the shop is starting to build up so there may be a slight delay. Okay, so maybe I need a nap. I was up late last night blogging about the incompetency of referees in sports. I guess I should have paid them more.

Pretty plane, though.

Status: offline 		Got the tail feathers finished. Good enough for "stand way off" fun fly big bird events.

The wing trim will be similar to the elevators. I may need a few days to recover.

I think I lost five pounds of water weight, it was hot.

Time for a nap for sure now.

Status: offline 		I got the bottom of the wings trimed with paint. May be able to get the top trim paint finished. I need to hurry, my flying buddy told me it needs to be ready for the next scale fun fly, scheduled for June 2013. He really knows how to hurt a guy.

Status: offline 		Got the trim for the wings finished. This is the top, the bottom looks the same, except for a 6" wide black stripe sort of in line with the wheels. That way the dirt kicked up by the tires won't be directly on the white area. I don't like wheel pants, they just fill up with dirt and grass.

 I may put the number 70 on the plane, that's about all the extra stuff I can stand to do.

Edit: I noticed some black spots on the white part of the wing that weren't there when I finished painting. I think those are on my computer screen, or maybe on your computer screen.

Status: offline 		Got the wing on and the electronic trims checked and adjusted. Will be ready for the engine pretty soon.

Saw this SH-34 at the Cavanaugh Air Museum yesterday. Brought back some old memories. I was in one that was forced down in Laos in 1962. Our buddies flew in a new engine from our FOL. Had to change the engine while laying in a rice paddy, only took three hours, poo, poo. Back when I was young and had a lot of energy, I learned to overhaul the radial engines, up to 36 clyinders, they were a real pain, way too many parts.

Status: offline 		I got an "unofficial" ride in one of those, many, many years ago. I call them "Screaming Meemies," after one on a television show some years ago. No rice paddies involved, thank goodness. I always thought they were impressive helis.

Your GSS is beautiful. You've outdone yourself. I can't wait to see it all finished and glowing!

I have been afraid to weigh the plane since I did the covering. It sure feels heavy since I have been flying my .40 sized planes.

Anyway, I finally broke down and put it on the scales this afternoon. The wing came in at exactly 4 lbs. The fuselage with everything but the engine, ignition and IBEC came in at exactly 7 lbs. The engine, muffler, ignition, and standoffs will add another 2 lbs-10 oz. With the IBEC, cowl, prop and spinner, I think the weight will be real close to the 14.3 lbs weight with the monokote covering that I started with.
