ok a few months back I started working on my GSS. I purchased the fugi 32b with the plane. for those of you with this motor how does it run? what 2 stroke oil are you using? I have read that this motor with lack of a better term "sucks", what are you thoughts? this will be my first gas plane.

Thank you
John

I bought the package of the GSS and 32B from Tower, After some vibration issues (My Wing dowl pins were not secured properly by me) I have had no issues with the 32B. It was plug and play. Once broken in, its performance is perfect for my needs (Sport flying) It starts easy, runs well. With the addition of the Fuji smoke muffler and a smoke system it is an awesome site to see.

I'm just using penzoil 40:1 and pump gas after break in. Thought heavy with the magneto ATM ignition, I still had to add 6oz of lead to the tail. The current 32B has no issues as shipped, some crankcases had issues very early on thought.

Does this engine suck? No. Is it the end all for your GSS? No. many engines used produce more power. But as a plug and play unit with the GSS for your average sport flyer its perfect....

how do you have your electronics setup im still coming up with having to add atleast 12oz's to the plane

My CG is at the forward limit, All electronics to the rear including a 4200mh battery. That where I picked up most of the weight saving for CG ballast by moving that receiver battery way aft...

haha thats the same battery im going to put in my plane, I have a 1500 in there now. How did you mount that battery? Im thinking about epoxying in like a battery box under the servos in the rear.

Thanks SBrian, jumped into the build and got the GT35 mounted. I didn''t trust the composite GP mount so I used the a metal H9 mount for the 35. I had to add 3/4" ply to the firewall to get the spinner distance but it worked out. Not a lot of room behind the engine/muffler so I''ll have to mount the ignition/battery in the fuselage behind the firewall. The wings are complete, ailerons hinged, servos installed and gear on. Back to work today so progress will slow but overall a pretty easy build so far.

I installed the battery as far back in the compartment as I could and mounted the ignition unit just behind motor in the exhaust cut out in the bottom.

I tried to fly the SS this weekend for the first time but I had a battery switch fail preventing me from flying the plane.

Hi, Brian,

Could you show us a pic of the ignition location?

Thanks,

This is my first gas ignition engine, I didn''t know how sensitive the ignition module was to heat and exhaust goo?

Here ya go guys. I use Tie Wraps to hold the batteries in place. Wiring is a little messy right now due to I''m replacing the bad battery switch. I use a dual 6V system for higher tork on the servo''s and the same pack for the ignition system, the batteries are stack one on top of the other with a Radio Shack 5 Volt regulator for a $1.50 to maintain 5 volts on the ignition. NICAD batteries run 6.60 volts fully charged which can reduce the life of the ignition module which is rated for 3 to 6 volts. Hope this helps.

Send your pic''s

The ignition module needs to be as far from the radio as possible. Originally I had the module sitting just in front of the gas tank next to the throttle servo. But after reading some horror stories, I decided to move the unit forward. The module is completely sealed and gas engines run real clean unlike the Nitro rice burners. The location gets a lot of air flow so heat is not an issue.

The inside firewall would have been a good choice but I sure you’ve looked there… If I had installed the unit there… I’m sure I would have found some new fowl words to add to my vocabulary!

Steve,

Thanks for the pics!!! I''m building another GSS for my son (we''d like to fly sport aerobatics together) and I''ll place the ignition there.

Thank you very much!

You''re right SBrian, to get the spark plug boot through the firewall would take a 7/8 to 1" hole cut out. I like where you mounted yours, it sure will make it easier and much cleaner. Has anyone flown the GSS with the wheel pants? I read the review in RCR and Dick Pettit had trouble with the wheel pants snagging on the wheel causing problems.

I figured that there would be a heat issue with one battery next to the other, is there not with on on top of another?
BTW, what pack are you using? 2400?
