I am at the wait and see as well, have to budget to by myself a nice powerful laptop which should be about October...just as fsone comes out. Either or I am going to snag a sim for the winter, will wait and see what reviews fsone gets, if it bombs I will snag G3. Played G3 at the LHS and had a blast with it.

Finally, a lot of people who talk about the Sims seem to focus on 3D. The guy at the field who recommended APFD is heavy into 3D. I'm not really looking for a "game" that I can master without being able to do the same at the field. I'm really looking for "simulation" which is what all of these are supposed to be.

So it gets down to the point of whether one is actually a nicer looking and fun Sim which is more of a game or a serious tool. I've heard some people say that G3 is the closest to being at the field. I do know one thing...my current Cockpit Master software is pretty pathetic in a lot of areas.

According to AFPD people: "AFPD is a little bit easier than the real thing so that you can learn the maneuvers"
According to G3 people: "G3 is a little bit harder(but can be made easier) so that you can actually fly the maneuvers when you get to the flying field"

The poll speaks for itself.

Both of the $99 price point options are less then 1/5th of the "happy with $200" votes...its not a close battle, there is no need to wait for 100...

If you don't want to pay 200 Dollars for it, don't. But dont argue the logic behind it. If I wasnt into this kind of thing, and was new, I would buy the $200 because i would fear the waulity of the $100 version.

That isnt always a safe judgement, but it is a popular one. Look at Maverick Parts for the Raptors. I swear by them now, some bits are less than half og the Thunder Tiger parts, but i prefer them over the stock ones. At first though, i wouldnt touch them for fear of cheapness, then i seen someone with a bunch of helies and awesome 3d skills using almost all maverick stuff for replacements...then i realized that they are good.

Its like this. If you want less, take less. Get clearview for cheap, its not bad (not great either) but its price is right. I would use it as well it it didnt have a pausing problem with my system (fine for 3 econds, pause...3 good seconds, pause) and im on a good system. But, for 30 bucks, you cant expect the kind of testing and R&D to be done to cover a wide range of systems.

Its about value. For most people, there is enough value in a sim to justify 200 bux, for some, there isn't.

rjm1982,

Install the latest video driver and ClearView will run smooth as silk. The pause you describe is due to bug in older ATI drivers.

You know, i re-read my message and I sound really harsh on clearview, it wasnt meant to sound that way.

I had it working on another system (nvidia card, i figured ATI was the culrprit int he problem)

Its great, and really great for the price...it just didnt "feel" right to me...but that is completely an objective opinion.

I love small (by small, i mean small dev team) software...

On that note, any chance of a linux port? I would def. buy it I could run it in linux...realflight relies too much on the registry for any of the linux tools to really help. If its heavily based on direct-x though, it wont be so easy.

Which would put me in the G3 camp as far as that goes.

I respectfully disagree. What if the next 54 people vote contrary to current trend? I'm not saying 100 is a special number, but just that I feel we need about that many or more to be more representative.

It's kind of like asking 5 people what their favorite movie of all time is and saying that it represents the entire moving going public.

I've conceded that the current trending doesn't support my opinion, but I also want to make sure that we have enough votes to
represent the amount of people here before talking about it more.

Actually, currently standing at 33%, but I'm not commenting on numbers yet.

If you look at the poll closely, it's fairly obvious that it'll never see 100 voters any time soon.

In the last week it's only gotten a couple a day. And it's been viewed a bunch but only gotten about 55 voters. I'd suggest you've gotten about all the results you're going to get.

But good luck on your quest.

BTW, there are two polls going right now about price and which to buy and both seem to have shot their wad. And both seem flawed in what they seem to want to find out and the voting options given. And the one asking people to compare is basically impossible since there are very very few people who've seen more than two and very very very few who've used more than one enough to have a real understanding.

whatever....

So exactly how is the poll about the price flawed? I agree that the other poll (not mine) is more of a Ford vs. Chevy and wil probably not show much that is not already known, but I still don't understand why you say the poll I posted is flawed. Please elaborate.

And how is it so obvious that it won't get 100 votes anytime soon? Not everyone logs on here everyday. (or week)

I too am curious about why 300+ views only generate 56 votes so far.

Well, if those 56 visitors have each visted 6 times to see tis progress, there is your 300 Views.

And the poll isnt flawed...but the data isnt what you wanted to get out of it, so your dragging your feet about the number rather than admit you're stance isnt the popular one.

Not true.

Whatever the data comes out to be is what it is.

As I have already stated. If the data doesn't support my opinion, I will gladly state that I my opinion was wrong.

I lot of people log on once a week or twice a month. I'm just trying to get an accurate representation. We'll see how it goes.

Also, even the current numbers show that people certainly didn't appear to be eager to got out and spend $200 on a flight sim (39%).

What if I want to use FS One with a Mode 3 or Mode 4 controller?
