Neko,
Does your DX7 radio fly anything well?

Are you aware of the inertiasoft's support page:

http://www.inertiasoft.com/fsonefaq/index.html

There you will find a few radio set up instructions. It doesn't seem that they have a DX7 radio setup, but I can't imagine the basic set up is all that different.

The location of different buttons is anyone's guess and the Takeoff mode, sorry I have no idea.

The more you read up on the FAQ's the more you'll find that FSOne is a very robust program, even if it is a bit difficult to figure out.

Best of luck to you,

By the way are you flying FSOne for Heli's or Airplanes?

Started using FSOne after several months of RF 3.5 and have a few questions.

It seems much harder to fly. Is that because of better physics? Or maybe I need to set up my DX7 better (I don't have the standard controller).

Setting up my Tx took 4 phone calls to Horizon. It's there transmitter! You'd think there would be a document or help file on setting it up.

Why in some windows are the OK buttons in the top right (Edit Transmitter), and some on the bottom left (Transmitter)? Not good bad interface practice. And why does the OK button not link to the Return key, which is standard Win and Mac interface?

What is "Takeoff Mode", which shows on the screen while flying? Not in the manual that I can find.

It is a pretty remarkable piece of software though. The number of features and options and edits is overwhelming.

Thanks guys. I'll take a look at the FAQ and keep plugging. I'm a programmer myself, so I appreciate the flexibility of the program, but I wish now I had gotten their controller. Would have made things simpler.

Neko,
If your a programmer, that you should have no problem interpreting the FAQ's. I wonder if you can buy a transmitter from Horizon?

I know my dad has the transmitter version and he likes it as he can always leave it hooked up, stays with the computer at all times and never needs a charge.

Depending on what transmitter you're using, some of the model setups can be confusing if you're starting out with the no-transmitter version. I have Hitec Prism 7x myself. Gears, flaps and the rotary knob (for Heli's) have given me some head scratching (but fixed eventually). The mode switches as well don't work 100% the same in the sim... for flight modes, I sometimes reassign those to the keyboard (assign to "single value" and "key down" )

Again, this is a good example of why to get the transmitter version of FS One... You can start flying right away with ALL the aircraft and deal with interfacing your real TX later.

Should be noted though that for just the basic aileron/rudder/elevator planes, setup should not be a problem with any TX... just assign the correct "axis" for the channels and reverse channels that need reversing and you're done. And of course make sure the trims, expos, etc are ALL reset on the TX first, because FS One handles all those internally.

It can be rather confusing at first, but it's all very logical and organized once you take a calm look at things. There are necessarily A LOT of settings and that can be only so user friendly. Better instructions (or a TX startup guide) would help. I hope they are working on those.

To IAMMAN,
Could not help but to catch your opinion on the FS and G4 sims. I have been doing my homework trying to determine which one to purchase by reading all of the old guys opinions as I am a newbee. I am flying a CX-2 helio and want to grad to a e-flite 400 helio. I would like a good sim that would mimic those copters. I just got off the phone with Horizon back east and the FS has the cp and cx in their "basic" package. The G 4 requires you to buy their additional pack for a 29.00 to get a cx2 helio. Neither offers the e-flite 400. Sorry for being verbose, but I want the best sim as a priority and then the software which as you can see I might have to buy their add ons. With that all said, after reading your opinions it appears you like the FS?
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

JPEE,

The Blade CP and CX models in FSONe fly nothing like the real thing....I have both the real ones and FSOne.

If you want to get a larger heli like the B400, you might want to consider Phoenix. I personally have not tried it, but just about every thread I've researched asking which is the best heli sim recommends Phoenix.

Good luck!

I think both are way overpriced. its like Vonage. it should be free. Voice over IP, that is. That's why I like FMS flight model simulator which is free you can use your own Tx.

if you look at software at electronics stores, prices of games/software (and hardware) depreciates much more rapidly. But because flight sim software is part RC hobby, depreciation of the software and hardware technology for that matter virtually never depreciates. its insane. but what can you do?

Iamman,

I got a bit confused regarding the TX. It sounds as if you said the FS is the way to go as you can use your own existing TX. However, if I only have the TX controller for the CX 2 which is greatly different than the Spektrum’s DX6i 2.4GHz DSM2 that come with the larger E-Flite's then hows that work? I "thought" that all of the sims came with the Spektrum’s DX6i 2.4GHz DSM2 LIKE like the E-Fite 400 does?
Thank both of you for replying.

Hey JPEE,

Actually, both FS-One and Realflight let you use your own transmitter but most likely you just need to have their USB-adapter (used for copyright protection) hooked up to your computer.

I was referring to FMS (flight model simulator) which is free, and also lets you use your own transmitter but since the software is freeware, there is no copyright. google "FMS" and you will be able to download it for free.

"However, if I only have the TX controller for the CX 2 which is greatly different than the Spektrum’s DX6i 2.4GHz DSM2 that come with the larger E-Flite's then hows that work? I "thought" that all of the sims came with the Spektrum’s DX6i 2.4GHz DSM2 LIKE like the E-Fite 400 does? "

Your CX-2 controller should work. FS-One and Realflight should have adapter cables to let you hook up your CX-2 Controller to your computer and fly on the sims. or if not, they both sell them separately. If I didn't answer your question, please post again and I or someone else will try to help.

You should check out the reviews of both simulator software before you decide to take the plunge. HEREis one such review.

Edit: I can't post the link because its against forum rules but I tell you what... Search for this exact phrase "G3 vs FSone vs G3.5 (FSone comparison review)" and you should get to a review and its on RCuniverse.com too

I used to run FSOne on a low end GFX initially... ATI 9250.

I would guess that generally you'll need to put the 3D scenery details and quality to medium for your integrated GFX (edit: or actually even a bit lower than medium). But the lower setting won't necessarily have a huge impact and the 3D scenery is not mind blowing anyway.

With that GFX, your best bet is the photo panorama scenery, which you could get away with 100% quality with... if not, then just under max settings. Panorama is markedly less taxing on the GFX (and CPU)... I know that from GPU and CPU load and temperature monitor logs.

And with the airplane
