I broke it in over Friday and Saturday. After a good round of heat cycles I started just driving it around. I went through may be 6 tanks of that. I have fliped it (about 6 times) and jumped it off the curb. Nothing has broken or come loose yet. But again I have not gone all out with it yet.
I only compared it with the NT18 because they both have the same motor... I know the gearing and everything else is totaly different.

For me it was worth the 250ish because it is fun to drive. But I just look at all my RCs as my BIG toy collection.

Hey Kevin, they are basically the same vehicle with the identical Toki .05 engine with minor
differences here and there. Since you mentioned you have a Mayhem then you are familiar
with Sportswerks so get the chaos.
If price is an issue then you can get the NB16 (European name for Vulcan) on E-bay for $169.99
plus shipping (without radio ) which is really nice because the stock radio is crap.
I would really recommend you getting one because they are fun and i plan to purchase a 1/16
nitro truck in the future because Cen Racing is coming out with one that has a .16 engine and
also Schumacher called the Rascal with a .18 engine.

Well I broke down this morning and bought one. Should have it by the weekend. (Chaos I mean). Everyone seems to be recommending 30% for them.. will monster HP 25% hurt it? Thats what i use in all my other trucks and nobody local (unless you consider 2 hour round trip drive) carries 30%.. Opinions on this would be VERY helpful.. then i wouldnt have to special order it..

I run 20% in both my Chaos and my NT18. To me 30% seems like a lot for these little motors. I would rather give up a bit of top end power to save some life in the motor... but that is just me.

Broke mine in today...it came set on the lean side actually. I can't believe the manual recommends ONE tank of break-in just "driving it around the parking lot." I can see impatient kids/dads just pegging the throttle for 4 minutes trying to get it to do some "sweet wheelies." I gave it 4 tanks before I started leaning it out, and I've put about 6 or 7 tanks through it so far in total.
Maybe I got a stinker engine, but I'm pretty disappointed in the performance so far. The only thing I've ever had that was harder to start was the old Cox glow engines. The low end was really sluggish up to a point where it would very suddenly find a little power band and then get going, but it topped out before I could get excited. I would be ok with the weak top speed if it had some good torque to it, but she sure don't. This could get a little better as the clutch breaks in.

The real issue is that on the most recent tank, it started making a terrible clanging noise under acceleration. It was sporadic at first and then got more frequent. When it would make this noise the acceleration would be visibly disrupted and the car would jerk. It was bad enough that I shut the car down for the day. I looked it over and I see nothing stripped or disconnected...it was only run in the parking lot anyway. I'm figuring it's either the one-way bearing or something internal in the engine. Either way, it makes me pouty. Oh, and I'm a full-time RC mechanic/technician so I'm confident I treated her right.

Don't take this as a condemnation of this car, it's definitely possible I just got a funk engine. I'm going to contact Horizon tomorrow and see what they say, and will surely update.

I am no expert but i make sure put my finger over exhaust till the fuel reached carb then take finger off and yank pull starter and it starts. I am really surprised at the break in being only one tank because when i broke in my Vulcan it came from the factory on the lean side so once it started i squezzed the throttle and richened it i think about 1-1/2 to 2 turns then ran it and after tank was empty leaned out 1/4 turn per tank from then on for about 6 tanks. During this process i could see the gradual increases in performance.

I bought mine yesterday and right away the thing had no torque no top speed or anything. I took the engine out several times thinking it might be the clutch shoes and even took apart the center diff but could find nothing wrong. I took a closer look at the rear diff and to my surprise one of the screws in the cup had come lose. Right away I tightened that up and everything was great. To be honest for a small engine it was quick. It accellerated quick and the top speed was good the slight problem im haveing now is it seems there is little to no top end. Fuel has been lasting right around 10 mins, which is decent. One thing I hate is how flexy most of the plastic parts on it are. Another thing is how soft the tires are even running it shortly on the road the tires started to go bald. The brake I wish would have been more to control the front and rear ends instead of just the front. All in all the motor is a good runner and definetly easy to tune!
