Yeh, but the KMI 09 still uses gears. The Xray seems to be the onle nitro mini that comes stock with ball diffs. So for now I live with my shoulda' woulda' coulda' and I'm useing the front diff in the rear(2wd). Still fun on the tarmac...

Go ball diffs............

Hey Guys,

Just joined. so, instead of reading all of the great stuff you guys have wrote. now i can join in the fun! Had my Chaos for a few weeks now and havin a lot of fun! But,also having the same problems too. some of my "mods" are......

1. steering servo. changed to a Futaba S3107 (fit like a glove)
2. flip top fuel door. A Choas option.
3. switch harness. So i can charge without pulling out the batts.
4. 1000 mAh AAA's. these things are great! Wall Mart for about 7 or 8 bucks.

I'm also interested in better gears for my Chaos...My partner just picked-up a new one here in SoCal (they range from $60-$90 if you look hard enough), anyway before he even fired it up he went to Rob's Hobby in Garden Grove and got just about every hop-up part on the shelf, and they are a Sportswerk Dealer with good inventory also new Hitech steel gear servos, and will intall a new FAST receiver. Sounds like a lot of money just to break a crapload plastic gears!
Last night I rebuilt all my diffs and packed them with silicon grease. I noticed that from the factory the grease was pretty much non-existent. They seem a little stiff. Does anyone know if they will loosen-up after I run it a few times? Also I recently noticed a lot of slop around the clutch so I installed a new roller bearing I only had larger shims for my Picco so I put two in inside of the bell. It seemed to work OK...any thoughts?

I put mine on the shelf. The dog bone hubs are stripped and need to be replace and epoxied on. I did make some shims to tighten up the mesh between the bevel and spur gear. I have enough experience to know that the Chaos is not going to cut it. So I'm going to repair it and sell/give it to a friend. Since no metal drive upgrades are available, I see no sense in throwing more money away. Good luck with your Chaos...

Yeh, you get what you pay for....
As for the radio problems. Sounds like my X-Mod...LOL
(Make sure the TX & RX crystals are seated securely & all battery voltages are at proper) I've made the voltage mistake more times then I care to mention. HEY WHERE IS MY CAR GOING????
Back to the Chaos...........
Keep it real! If you really want to make the Chaos BOSE, you just need some time and money. I don't mean over the counter or ebay chaos stuff. I mean putting parts from a better mini onto the chaos chassis(& a new power plant). Seem like a waist? Depends on how you view it. Is it cost effective to build a bad azs chaos? NO! Is it cool? I think so since no one on this forum has done so. That is, as far as I know.
I once put a Kyosho Rampage drive train onto an RC10T graphite chassis(with all tie-stuff). It still couldn't touch a stock RC10 T .12 nitro. It was the stock Kyosho .12 engine, I swear!!!
What all my babbling is leading up to is that, before you spend another dollar on the Chaos, consider the Xray. No, I don't own one yet. Next winter... Time to play with the big toys...

If someone following this thread has upgraded to a new mini nitro your 2,3 or 4 cents would be appreciated.

B.

Hello ppl, after purchasing 3 Chaos, and then reading these forums I got a little worried that my kids (6, 8, 10) wouldnt be able to play with them as much as I would like them to. Ya know, around the house and at the track. Well, they have each had theirs for over 6 months and we can goto the track on a weekend and put 2 gallons through the 3 of them and they run like a champ. Yes I keep it rich, but after running a couple tanks, we let them cool off because the heat spreading around the bottom plate REALLY heats up the diff cases. I have not modified their buggies in ANY way except for shortening the fuel line and recycle line. I have their steering response set at 1/2. There have been a few big jumps but landed out ok, but I have NEVER had to replace ANY part (stearing servos/throttle servos as well) other than tires and triple A's. This buggy is a great RC for the beginner. I hope they will last for at least a year because i told em once they can master steering and throttle response without using much brake, then we will move em up to the 1/10 nitros. That is just my 2 cents. Ive been holding off posting until I knew what they were and what they were able to put up with.
