well there it is... its pretty hefty, its a little tweaked in places but shouldn't be a big deal i think my motor mount holes are a tad off, maybe 1 mm, and my main mount holes maybe about the same... i dunno and i gotta dremel a little off the center tranny brace cuz it hits the mount slightly.... but thats no biggy it has some extra stuff on it anyways.... yeah so a little dremeling and i should be good, i'd say thats pretty good for 3-rd project outta sheet metal......

wiating on a bigger pinion even after dremeling the center diff brace down to the bearing on the motor side so just waiting on parts and reworking battery strap at the moment... but thats not big deal i ended up using the stock battery holder but i hacked it some so only the back wall and the one that holds the anneta remais but that one may get the annena holder cut off of it.. cuz i don't want to have to deal with routing my anntenna past my spur.... tho this will be over geared the stock pinion was 15. or 16 i'm gunna be running 20 or 22t pinion...

Sorry guys...(I thought you all died) anyway her'e are some of the things I can remember doing to a two year old Chaos. (Yes, I brought it to work today to do a couple tach runs on our new concrete.)

Here's a list in no specific order:1.Re-fiil shocks with sil. oil.

2. Put small slivers of fuel line in all drive cups to keep dogbones centered.

3.Replace cheap stock tires with Mini Inferno. They have a buttload of styles and price should be about $15.00 at LHS; double check the glue job and add a little CA anywhere it feels suspect.

4. Shorten fuel line to about 1".

5.Lock center differential ( I used J-B Weld).

6. Rebuild front and rear spider gears and seal/fill with silicon oil.

7. Install Trinity metal 14 tooth pinions and outdrive cups; Seal entire diff with silicon sealer and drill small holes at top of housing  to refill diffs with silicon oil. I found little, tiny red plastic cap plugs at Home Depot for about .50 cents which makes it easy to refill and visually check the crown gear. When done properly these gears give it more top end that the stock 12 tooth. The mesh is real good with none, or maybe one shim. This seems to have solved my most serious problem. I did the change about a year ago, and no major gear meltdowns to date...

8. We all know that the stock electronics is dogmeat, so I installed a Spectrum DX3 and Hitec servos (HS-65 MG or HB work great with very few mods).

9. I got a Vulcan air cleaner to replace the goofy stock set-up. Also the not quite so hideous-looking Vulcan body fits nicely with a couple small mods. I got a bunch of Vulcan parts at Hobby People for super low prices since it was discontinued a while back; appearently they had even more issues than Chaos')

10 .Of course check and tighten all fasteners, locktight as needed.

11. Replace bottom motor mounts with allen head type. It goes on and on like this... I'll try to send a few pics...

Just open up the center diff and open up the remove and clean the spider gears throughly. put it back together and layer in a little J-B Weld, or epoxy. amd put it back together. This will lock it up  and now you will have direct drive to both front and rear, and ALSO 4-wheel braking...very sweet.

Thanks for all your help. Have taken the radio reciever out of it guess I will have to replace everything for it is glitching so bad that the steering servo will hardly work. Havent even got around to starting the Picco that I put in for I want to have everything beefed up as much as I can.

Yeah...I doubt if the plastic ring and pinion can take the Picco power, so take your time and do as much prevention as possible, My original Toki is still running, but it's gotten pretty loose and sloppy; doesn't start as easily as it used to, but once it's running it's smooth and reliable.

So why do we call you "Gatedude"??? I only ask because I design gates and doors here in SoCal.

Had my own trucking business and one day was backing up into a residence to deliver some patio tables and chairs. My helper always was back there just in case. To this day we both really dont know how it happened but somehow the tip of the gate we thought would clear under the bed of my truck caught and pulled this gate off its hinges. So he used to kid me about the one and only time we ever damaged a home owners property. So Mr gatedude was born.

Hey, Watch the gate, dude!

So did you figure out the throttle linkage for the Picco yet? It looks like it should be fairly simple...

Yes,as you said its pretty simple. I shortened the fuel inlet line so the linkage would clear it. The line now is only about an inch and a half, maybe a little less.Should prime a lot faster. Some where on this subject I read that this guy took a dremel and cut down the motor or carb to make it fit. Cant understand why he just didnt just reverse the carb. Maybe it was for a different application. The radio system is glitching so bad that I cant get a good carb adjustment. Going to replace servos with those you talked about and have an extra reciever fom the boat radio and add another model to it and that should take care of the clitching. Might replace those diff withe trinity some fella was taling about. They are suppost to be steel. I had this little bugger out once and it seemed to just fall apart.and Im not hard on my equipment. Guess I cant complain for only sixty off ebay new. You must be lucky with that toki for mine just was hard to start and once I got it to run it wouldnt keep running and Im not new to r/c by a long shot. My next project is putting my .40 CMB racing engine in in this hydro once its painted. Start that one this winter.

Good job Gatedude...just remenber that the Trinity changeover is only for the pinion and drive cup...you still use the stock plastic ring gear. That's why it's so important to keep the lube going at all times. The old method of using grease let it fly off and sooner than later it would overheat.  My rearend used to get super hot before I started filling it with sil oil from the top filler plug. Now it stays cool to the touch and I think that's why I'm not toasting the gears anymore (I saw an ad for "GreenGrease", has anyone tried it??)  Dont throw away those old Toki's...send them to me!. I seem to have a way with old Jap engines: Enyas, Tolkis and Datsuns...but that's another story.

You can have mine if you want it,just give me you address and Ill send it to you parcel. Cant under stand why Im still getting this glitching even after changing to my futaba fm radio system. Still have the same servos as yet .Cant figure it out. Never had this problem with any of my other cars or trucks. Do you have any idea what could be causing this.

I PM'd you about the engine...

As far as the glitching goes I also had a few issues with the stock radio system. Does it have problems with both servos? Try switching the servos on the receiver and see if it's actually a bad servo. Both of mine were suspect at one time or another, but I think they may have gotten wet once or twice. Also, check your antenna...

Hey guys, quick question.......Does the Trinity .095 Mini Draked Motor fit? Stormerhobbies is blowing them out for $29.99. At a price like that, its hard to pass up. I just want to know whether or not it fits. I have heard someone say that it goes right in but i want to be sure. Also, do I need a slide or a rotary carb? Sorry about all the questions, for I am new to the Nitro scene.

Here is the link for the motor:

https://www.ssl-stormerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/seekpart.pl?src=ns&pn=TRI40018

Thanks in advance!!!

Hey LIV... that Drake  sounds intriguing. I thought that I read on this thread once that that motor will work fairly easily.  I'm pretty sure that you can shoehorn it in, and send a couple pics of your progress too. For that price, it's worth a try; it said it will fit a Vulcan which mounts very similar to a Chaos so it probably will work.

P.S. LIV, it looks like you'll need to get a Trinity round exhaust manifold, spring, and gasket too...
