I just got done putting my 100X together with the 120 AX/stock muffler combo. I really didn't have to modify much. I was able to use the stock motor mounts in the stock position. I did have to grind the inside of the arms some in order for the 120 to fit inbetween them. I drilled and tapped the mount arms for the engine. No nuts, just bolts and lockwashers. I did put a bit of RTV sealant on the bolt threads. If you're useing the stock OS muffler in the pitts position, you'll have to drill a hole through the angled motor mount arm support for the muffler pressure line. I also used a 10 oz. tank instead of that big 17 oz thing. This gave me room for my throttle arm under the tank. I also installed a false floor under the new tank....

I have a Saito 90 flat twin, after reading this forum I would like to know what every one thinks of putting this in the F 50? This will be my first 3d airplane.

I dont know about your flying style, conditions etc, but with my 1.20 I only got about 12-14 minutes of flight time with the 16oz tank, so be sure to watch your time close with the smaller tank, trust me, if you are not at plenty of altitude and plenty of speed, the funtana will glide like a boulder!!

It appears that I'll have to remove about .205" (.1025 per side) of the engine mount in order for the engine to fit. Will this affect the structural integrity of the mount (stock mount in kit)?

    Thanks,

    George

I had a dead stick with mine and landed it with a bit on nose down pitch and the prop caught the ground and RIPPED the front of firewall off. I took some nylon fabric (you can use fiberglass too) and reinforced the whole thing with it and the covered it with epoxy, very strong, very light and very necessary on this plane.

Also a note for anyone building, but has not bought a motor yet, I put a CRRC 26cc gas in mine and I love it, I can fly for well over 30 minutes and it has plenty of power to hover and pull out of it nicely, not rocket out it, but pull out nicely. I bought my engine from www.prcmodel.com they have wonderful customer service, they sent me a replacement muffler that broke for only the price of shipping, very nice people to deal with, i will be buying a 50cc from them soon, just fyi

    Okie,

I do almost all 3D with my Tana, so I'm rarely over 1/2 throttle. I get 12 minute flights with 2 oz. left. Mine is a real floater on dead sticks. I had troubles on the maiden and had 3 dead sticks in a row.....It just floated in.....Mine came in at 8 lb. 7 oz. Running Hitec 5945's everywhere except throttle. Just a std. on it. Using an Intellect 1500 NiMH 5 cell battery that weighs 4.5 oz. The rest is all stock.....This is one of the sweetest little planes I've ever had.

BTW if you like to fly IMAC, I've done the Sportsman sequence with it and it rocks! I was totally stunned.

I'm interested in this plane to start practicing Basic IMAC. I'm wondering how this plane would work out with an OS120 four stroke for power in this application? Seems like the tank size could also be reduced.

    Jim,

A buddy of mine had one of the Futana 90S (yellow one) with an OS pumped 120 on it. It flew much heavier than what mine does with the AX120. If all you're going to do is fly IMAC, the extra weight wouldn't be a problem. If you already have the 120 4-stroke, use it. If I was going to do ALL IMAC with this plane, I would opt for a small gasser of some sort. CRRC 26, BCMA 28, or a Evolution 26 with pipe. Tho the Evo and pipe will cost you close to $500! Too much for a small gasser IMO. If you're going to spend that much on an engine, jump up to the 28% size planes with a DL-50. You can get the DL-50 firewall ready for like $390. A buddy has the CRRC 26, and it seems to be about the same power as the AX 120, but one pound heavier. Whatever you decide, go with digital servos. When flying IMAC, you can really tell the difference between the digi's and the el cheapos.......

Also, from what I have seen with my load testing...my hitec digitals are more efficient (current-wise) for the same load and my non digitals with less holding power. It was very interesting to see this as I originally thought that the digitals were going to be current hogs. It seems for the same load on the digitals, the current is about half...going from .6 to .3 amps for a given load on the control surface.

    tsyssa,

I've never done any load testing comparisons, but I think you're right. The other day I spanked my Tana around for almost 1 1/2 hrs of flight time, and when I charged my Elite 1500 mAh battery, I still only put 900 mAh's back into it...... I run the Hitec 5945's on all my smaller stuff now, and use the 5955TG's on my 36% Edge. The programmer makes using these servos a no brainer.....Very versatile. Once you're past the beginner stage, a high quality servo can really make a difference in how the airframe performs....It's tough laying out the $$ the first time round for them, but I consider the servos an investment......
