I see that you are putting in retracts. Please read the threads that are in RCU. I have made some changes to the bird. Right now I am putting in a Robart retractable tail wheel and pull-pull cables. Converting it to a Mustang III. Have fun building it. I just bought a P-39 on line, and will be my next project (or put in the to-do pile).

I'm building one too! I'm converting mine to the rare B/C model. I raised the motor mount 1/4" to give the nose a more scale look.

dionysusbacchus,

Nice job on the P-51, the landing looks incredible! I love the P-51B with the British Malcom hood. Lots of nice color schemes to choose from as well.

With a little love, these Top Flight kits can be made to look pretty good.

Keep up the excellent work!

dionysusbacchus, Those photos look awfully familiar!
Did you know that I had to cut and paste your user name? What a monicker!
Please explain to the masses (us) how you managed to modify the nose section and get the bottom to still fit right....Or did you use a larger spinner? That's the most aggravating part of the TF P-51 in my opinion....That exaggerated slope along the topline of the cowl. Last question; How much did you raise it? Because it looks right...
I won't even ask about the landing gear. Fantastic work.

Greek god of wine and ecstasy, I had to pick between my two favorite hobbies, I didn't choose an airplane name, next question!

Measure on the firewall as the plans say but just raise the horizontal line 1/4". That is all! Use the 4" spinner. The wood for the nose that is supplied with the kit is not thick enough, I think this alone has given us some of the ugliest TF p-51's. Plus people don't realize that when you build a scale kit you are sculpting it, not slapping parts together. The cowl will be slightly off, this can be fixed with sanding, build it up in the inside with CA and your favorite girls pantyhose!

I'll post more as I progress, SSSSLLLLLOOOOOWWWWLLLLYYYY!
