Can any one tell me the differance between the original WS-G001 Walkera Giro that comes standard on the #35 and #36 and the newer G006 which has a sticker on it in big blue letters that says "NEW AVCS"?
I've been very happy with the old one but got this new one as a spare and thought I would swap it over.

Cheers

Can you check it for operation and let us know?

I didn't actually like the original Walkera gyro. I found the drift unacceptable. By the end of a 10min hover, I had to use full rudder to keep the tail straight.

And when I moved the tail, it would tend to spring back in one direction.

Maybe mine were just setup badly, but they never worked well. I got a replacement, but it was the same... Tried cutting the top off to allow the band to work - no better

With the original, when you move the tail, the tail servo jumped, then returned to centre.

With an AVCS, it when you move the tail, the tail servo should move as with the original, then stay put (not return to centre).

I'd be interested to know what behaviour the new gyro exhibits.

David.

Ok Bit of info for you. I had that same problem on a #36 I just fixed for some one. Couldn't work it out. In fact needed full left just to stop it from spinning. I bypassed the gyro to fly manual (this is how I learned 20 yrs ago) and it didn't fix it. Was the servo! even when connected directly to the receiver it would jump and then return back to centre.
As for the G001 Gyro's I strip them clean the electronics and fix any poor solder joint and I haven't had any problems with them at all. That's why I bought another one (expecting it to be the same)
I don't really have the motivation to swap it out just to see what it does but will be building it into a new bird soon.
I've looked a bit closer at it now it only has one adjustment for sensitivity (no gain control) and that second switch that never did any thing is now the AVCS/NORM switch. The other switch is still reversing.
The silver is a darker colour and the label has a holographic sheen to it.
That's about all I can tell you for now.

Cheers
Eric

My G001 had a drift problem too. It would drift to about 30 - 45 degrees in about 30 seconds. If I slowly moved the rudder stick to bring the tail back it would do nothing - even at the stop. If I jabbed the rudder quickly the tail would move and hold its new position. The drfit would then start again.

I replaced the G001 with a Futaba 401. Problem solved. This gyro keeps the tail glued in place yet responds to small rudder inputs by slowly turning the heli then holding the new position when the stick is returned to neutral.

I am using the original Walkera servos with an old (1986) Futaba Tx and Hitec Rx.

Hi 2emx.

Yep, that's the exact problem as I experienced it. Very frustrating.

At first, it didn't matter, since I was learning to hover. Once I got up to flying for a few minutes, it became an issue.

I think this could be an example of Walkera's batch mentality. Some people get rubbish with known faults while others get the better product. If they have a bad batch, they resolve it by selling to customers - with the expectation that they can burn a few so long as they fix it for the next run.

As for me? I've sworn off the Walkera gyro... Two bad experiences. Today I bought a Colco GY400.

David
